Still not VR-native, unfortunately (have to do the usual Steam betas dance)

And from what it appears there’s some tweaking to the lighting model needed

Looking forward to firing this up tonight and seeing for myself

I just spent two and a half hour in Euro Truck sim in VR and it’s my new favourite VR game.

While I like flying better than driving, and prefer fighting to hauling, the very fact that this game has a solid caRPG underpinning the sim makes it so much more fun.

It also helps that my potato GPU can drive the G2 well with ETS2.

I’m not sure I’d go that far.

It’s not that bad. Yet. It’s also fortunate that I already had a bunch of VR-capable games to keep me on the straight and narrow. Mostly.

Besides, buying VR games is saving me money buying pancake games, right!? I have impeccable logic.

By the way, Half Life: Alyx, which I hear is not too bad, is 40% off right now on Steam until 1 April.

Not that I will be buying it of course (nooooo, of course not), because I seriously doubt my poor laptop will run it, and it will just be torture with it sitting there in my library. That is what I will be telling myself over and over while my finger hovers over the purchase button.

Anyone else playing “In Death: Unchained” ? Got it yesterday for my Q2 and finding it really satisfying so far. I can see why it has such great reviews. It’s one of those games where the gameplay (ie firing the bow) is so satisfying that you don’t care when you die and have to start again. I love the gradual levelling up as you unlock achievements and perks. It’s just a classy game all round. I really feel like my archery is improving. There’s nothing quite like getting those headshots! And there’s elements of stealth to it too - you can travel by the rooftops if you want to, but then you end up aggroing more enemies than you can cope with if a whole courtyard of them see you at once. And running away doesn’t work - those damn enemy archers can teleport after you if they lose sight of you. Anyway, I recommend. I can see I’m going to be replaying this one a lot! I do want a co-op version tho. Fighting alongside a buddy would be so awesome.

Picked up Cosmodread for the Quest2. Yeah, this is pretty tense. I haven’t gotten that far, but I’m getting the hang of it. I only have the default weapon at the moment, but it’s pretty clear that combat isn’t always a viable solution.

Yeah if you look back through the thread you’ll see I won’t shut up about it. ;)

Not to mention how you unlock new enemy variants, by killing certain numbers of their predecessors.

Yeah you start to get pretty good accuracy after a while, it’s satisfying. A really well-made game.

Haha, at least they have a good audio tell. Nerve-wracking when you hear it, quickly looking around. :) They also teleport to maintain distance if you try rush them and smack them with your shield. Love it.

I need to try playing In Death: Unchained in my garage where I have more room to move around. In my basement I have around a 12x6 rectangle I can play in, so I can sidestep and dodge a little but I can see where the game could really benefit with more open space.

Yeah I have a similar issue, but with height. My play area has a ceiling fan that I inadvertently hit whenever aiming really high. I leave it off of course. :)

I find I don’t really need to dodge or move around much though, since you have the quick dodge crystal thing you throw with one hand and you can lean to avoid arrows or block with the shield.

But I can see how it would be better if I did have more room for sure.

You can smack them with your shield?! How cool! Did not know this.

Yep! It’s particularly handy for when you get swarmed by those smaller melee grunts - block their attack then swing the shield and knock them to the ground

This could be an issue for me too! I have yet to do it, but my wife freaks out seeing me aim high in Pistol Whip.

I’ve been putting off reinstalling Windows on my laptop for weeks because I need it for work, but it’s getting harder to play Steam VR titles without visual and audio glitches. Some of them are fine, I’ve particularly been enjoying Battlezone (the Rebellion game that was VR-only for a while) and Ultrawings. Some of the more demanding titles like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and Raw Data just can’t quite cope.

I’m at the point with GPU upgrades where I may just have to go with an RTX 3060 because it’s pretty much the only thing that’s available (sometimes), and will be for some time. It’s poor value next to the Ti version, but it’ll still be a major upgrade over the 970 that’s currently in my desktop (once I replace the dead mobo). I pretty much have to build a new desktop though, things have changed too much since the last one which I kept reanimating with new parts.

Squaring the AAA circle, Fallout 4 VR for $7:

I missed the window for the Serious Sam games, but I did pick up Outer Wilds on sale, which is supposed to be excellent in VR. Although not native, someone made a VR mod for it.

I have not yet tried it. I will let you know if I do this weekend. On my to-do list is to try out the new MSFS update.

Now that ATS/ETS2 1.40 is out of beta, does anyone know if it has been applied to the VR branch? I can’t seem to find that info on the internets.

Edit: The version showing up on my Steam library is 1.40 for oculus. So there’s your answer. I will add that to my weekend to-do list!

Yes sir it has.

Even on this right here forum would you find such info, or even in the drop down list for versions in your steam ETS/ATS listing…

I shudder to think what would happen if you lost your keys…

My counterweight/plate/battery arrived today. A sinch to set up and it already feels better upon putting it on. I should be able to get some time with it later today after some chores to test it out, as the real test will be how it feels with the heavy link cable attached. Can’t wait!

how dare you. I updated my post.

Okay so, so far, this thing is great.

Just spent around an hour playing two Serious Sam games while standing and using the link cable, and it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. I could still feel the thing against my face, but that was the extent of it. I think we have a winner.

So that braided cable is just an extension, to which you can either connect the battery or the Link cable, is that right? My Link cable points downwards, so I really should be doing something like that.

I find I have to regularly tighten the side-straps, but to do that you’d need to remove the battery. Of course, half the reason to tighten the straps is to stop the headset from slipping down your face, which this setup is designed to prevent, so hopefully you’d not need to do that very often if at all.

[oh wait, that’s an Elite strap is it? I guess that’s not necessary then]
