This season so far is practically the opposite of season 2, really enjoying it. Feels like they are back to season 1 form. I know violence isn’t the be all, end all of a zombie survival show but between zombie killing and trite drama, I’d definitely err on the side of more zombie smashing.

Zombie fights means production money

I guess season 1 and 2 convinced the execs to spend more dough on season 3

Amen to that.

Glenn versus Bizarro Glenn. Hope it happens.

That bit at the end was really F’d up. BTW was that Dallas Roberts playing mousy scientist guy?

Wasn’t Andrea still around when Rick told the group they were all infected, and later when Shane decided to get up for a snack?

Wouldn’t that be a pretty important piece of information to share with Michone?

Then again, any episode that is 100% Lori-free is aces in my book.

Oh, look, it’s the new replacement for Shane. I guess you can’t very well have a zombie apocalypse without a psycho. But David Morrisey? Really? That guy is just so…so…I dunno…bland. Was Ian McShane asking for too much money or something? Is Peter Mullen too busy for a TV show? They don’t need Sean Bean for Game of Thrones anymore.

Gah, thank you! That was driving me crazy. Papageno, what do you know him from? I only know him from The Grey and a thriller called Joshua.

No. You’ve reversed the order of those two events.

The comic version was actually modeled on Danny Trejo. Would have been interesting if the TV show actually used him, instead of giving him an absurd turn in Sons of Anarchy. He was great in Breaking Bad though.

I read that as Denny Terrio, and thought how awesome that would be.

I think I prefer David Morrissey as the Governor. Danny Trejo (while great) wouldn’t fit with what they’re going for in the tv show: a bland (but charming) character with an everyman look that wouldn’t throw off any alarms. No insult intended to Trejo, but he’s definitely an imposing figure that would make one uneasy on first meeting him.

Ok so someone 'splain what we were seeing at the end. A bunch of zombie heads in fishtanks? Is the big thing supposed to be us wondering what the heck is going on and how evil these dudes are, or is there some other foreshadowing I missed?

And was that the chopper pilot’s head at the top or not?

Yes, that was the chopper pilot. And yes, that scene was intended to let you know that the governor is kind of a whack job.

Yeah, holy shit that ending. I mean, even when they gunned down the military guys in cold blood I was thinking “well, maybe they’ve had some bad experiences with military guys coming along and raiding or trying to take over the town, so even though this is way over the line there could be some twisted reasoning behind the brutality”. Then at the end when #headsinfishtanks is revealed I knew it was just full on crazy, no reasoning whatsoever. The thing I can’t wait to have explained is how everyone else is allowing this to happen. His little cadre of “security” guys has to realize how unstable the Governor is at this point, so why no coup? And what is Science McNerdypants doing in that lab reanimating the heads of walkers? Are they trying to find a way to control them to make an army of walkers they can use for nefarious purposes?

Great stuff, and WAY more interesting than Season Two.

This is the world that Futurama predicted.

Harry Groener would have been a fantastic Governor reprising his role as Mayor Wilkins from Buffy, imo.

Comic spoiler
In the comics, the decapitated zombie heads are established as still being animated, so it is even creepier there. As far as I know, this has not been part of the TV show and I was specifically looking for movement last night. Maybe it will come up since the Governor gave his “spark of their former selves” tidbit last night.

Also, I was half expecting the even more troubling reveal…
And what is going on with the tea? Am I crazy, or was there alot of talking about it.

Now that you mention it, that did seem to come up a few times.

Zombie heads have previously been shown as still being alive, so there’s no need to “re-animate” them. More significant is that without some kind of energy input (eating) the zombies do deteriorate - just really, really slow.

This is really significant - what that means is that eventually the zombie apocalypse will end. At some point the food will run out and the zombies will “die.” It might take a while, but that is a ray of hope that could sustain a group.
