I actually was surprised at how fast Glen dropped the gun. He was a foot from Meryl’s head. Shoot! You can’t possibly miss and this situation isn’t going anywhere good.

Yeah. Both of them being outdrawn by a behind-the-back reach was lame. Even more lame was their reflexes were fast enough to get them behind the car but not to pull the trigger.

If they wanted the hostage situation set-up with talk, they could have Merle simply sneak up behind Maggie pre-conversation and then have the whole conversation while she’s at gunpoint. The draw down was comically bad.

My brother said as much while we were watching. I suppose the only thing I’d worry about in that situation would be if getting shot in the head produces an involuntary contraction of the fingers or something, thus firing the gun that’s up to Maggie’s temple. If that’s not a legitimate consideration, then yeah, Glen should have fired.

I thought it was more a case of Maggie and Glen not wanting/being unable to shoot Daryl’s brother. If it had been me I’d have shot Merle on sight, then hid the body. Then never mention it to anyone. Problem solved.

I think Glen and Maggie were trying to do the right thing by Daryl and leaving a chance, however remote, of some kind of positive family reunion. Then when Maggie has a gun to her head Glen might as well give it up since the prime chance to kill Merle is passed anyways. Plus neither of them has any clue how bad falling into Merle’s hands(at Woodbury) is right now.

I can also buy Glen hesitating, as with Andrea before in Woodbury, except for the ultimate meltdown and cuffing him to the roof, Merle, at one point, was one of the main sources of protection and food. Yeah, it’s been a while, but seeing Merle again would have brought up all that stuff for Glen. Maggie, on the other hand, is looking at a guy she’s probably only heard of, who has a bayonet for a hand and isn’t listening to Glen (someone she knows, trusts and loves). When Merle went for the gun, I can totally buy Glen going for cover, but Maggie should have plugged him.

Merle would be a more interesting character if he were a bit less comically evil. The characters seem to have a more complex relationship with him as you describe, but the audience can be confident he’s just going to do something evil and a little stupid at every opportunity.

Merle would be a more interesting character if he were a bit less comically evil.

As Walking Dead (the comic) characters go, Merle would be pretty low down on the comically evil scale.

If the story is correct, AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME casting news.

Chad Coleman (aka Cutty from The Wire, and Coach from L4D2) is cast as Tyreese in Walking Dead!

Yep he’d be perfect for the role.

… which likely means that poor Oscar won’t last the season. 'Cause you couldn’t have three black characters in a show set in Georgia; it wouldn’t be realistic.

L4D2? Good credentials. LOL.

I cannot recall any of those scenes. Merle was always trouble, more trouble than he was worth. I cannot remember him ever being the food getter or their main source of protection. Hell, it was the opposite, he was causing strife and threatening his own people. His group feared the walkers while living in fear of Merle within.

Glen hesitated for one reason, he likes Merles brother and Glen still isn’t comfortable with killing the living. I bet that changes real soon.

Based on that game, he has a good voice for the role … why don’t you feel he’d work?

Just watched Season 1 for the first time today on Netflix. Time to plow through season 2 over the weekend.

What are you trying to say? What you posted makes no sense, so what deep thought were you actually trying to express?

Don’t get your hopes too high…

Maybe it will be better? Watching them back to back without commercials might make it at least more satisfying.

Little things annoy me. Like what’s the point of establishing that the walkers can smell a human, but in the first episode of season 2 pulling one on top of yourself or hiding under a car works fine?

My guess is that it’s because they aren’t too bright. They are shambling corpses, after all. Maybe they can smell you but also need line of sight? I dunno…

I don’t think they’ve ever shown them hunting via smell. They’re attracted to noise, and will attack any human they can see. AFAIK smell is only used to determine whether what they’re looking at is a human or another zombie.
