Episode 7 of season 2 was a huge kick in the guts. When the walkers flooded out of the barn thanks to Shane, I expected the last one to be Hershel’s wife. Boy was I wrong.
Possible very old spoilers…
Wasn’t that basically what happened to John Leguizamo’s character in Land of the Dead? He was bitten and decided to see what it was like on the other side.
Boy am I glad that Michonne survived the episode relatively unscathed. I thought for sure she was going to get bitten by…

Amen, brother! I’m getting sick of these zombiphobics, telling me how I should live my death. I choose to stroll through the woods and abandoned cities, thank you very much. Other than the unquenchable hunger, is it really so much worse than my current job? The Walking Dead is just perpetuating the stereotype.
I was hoping the Woodbury stuff would be just about wrapped up with just some loose ends for the “half season premiere” but based on the preview it looks like the whole rest of the season is going to be a bunch of tit for tat encounters. meh.
I was also hoping they were setting Andrea up to do something cool wrt/Daryl and informing the townfolk that the Governor is batshit insane, but again the previews look like she’s sticking by her man… she’s quickly switching from annoying but sympathetically ignorant to plain old stupid bitch.

My thoughts exactly. On both points.
Now this is the Walking Dead I remember from season two. And the Lost I remember from pretty much every season of Lost, come to think of it. A bunch of poorly shot made-for-TV faffing about with badly written characters divided pointlessly into factions for contrived dramatic potential. Whee. And now the Governor gets an eyepatch. Eyepatches are never not ridiculous.
February, huh? Take your time, Walking Dead. After tonight’s episode, I’m certainly not in any hurry.

Wow, what a bunch of haters. I loved this episode. For instance:
-
Carl has turned from an annoying jerk into a capable kid, even volunteering to cap the dying woman!
-
The interchange with Axel was laugh-out-loud funny for me
-
the fight between Michonne and the Governor was awesome, and
-
the end twist where the Governor throws Merle to the dogs was unexpected (for me, anyway).
And poor Oscar, we barely knew ye. Pretty clear he was going to die once the new folks arrived, but still…

Is no one going to comment on that BIG FUCKING HOLE IN THE WALL? I would think that’s something Rick & the Gang would have dealt with a long time ago.

There is no conceivable reality in which Michonne does not tell Andrea that she’s working with Andrea’s old group. I don’t like stupid plot contrivances that have me yelling at the TV.
Rick and the gang only cleared two cell blocks, part of the yard and some corridors around their base of operations. They’ve already said they know some walkers are getting into the prison from outside since some of the ones they’ve killed were in civilian clothes, but they haven’t had the time or manpower to fully scout the perimeter and secure the entire prison. They’ve been locking down the entrances to the other parts of the prison in an effort to contain the threat. Carl had the keys, so he likely unlocked a door or gate to get to the place where he rescued the newcomers even though that was not shown.
The Governor probably thinks Rick’s crew are more numerous and better equipped than they actually are because he’s under the impression that they have secured the entire prison. I’m sure that will play out over the second half of the season as the Governor begins to understand just how limited Rick’s group is. Of course, during the made-for-TV fight scene as Tom described it Rick’s group seemed to take out at least half a dozen of the Governor’s fighters, and the Governor is sacrificing Merle, so there likely aren’t too many decent fighting types left in Woodbury at the moment.
I thought it was a decent episode in terms of story progression, but the assault on the town was pretty laughable. I still can’t come to terms with how so few people are able to secure such a large area, including the town square, all those buildings, the motorpool, the lab, and the factory where the fighting pits are located. I guess that would help explain how Rick’s group was able to sneak in and move about freely, but it’s kind of ridiculous.
Poor Oscar, we hardly knew you. That actor has to be pissed. He was one casting decision away from being the new black guy, or at the very least T-Dog, and instead he gets to be the prison inmate who appeared in 3 epsiodes and whose name we didn’t even know until after he was dead (thanks Maggie).
Looking forward to the rest of this season if for no other reason than I want to see Glenn recover and then go medieval on Merle and/or the Governor.

They have mentioned his name before. But yeah, I couldn’t believe that they reinforced their “one black male ONLY” rule.

This is the part that bugs me. Surely Andrea told Michonne about the group she got separated from, and surely Andrea was on the lookout for them as they wandered about since she knows several got away from the overrun. So, why not tell Rick that Andrea was there? It stinks of LindeLost. Yes, I understand that Michonne is tight-lipped, but one would figure that part of returning to Woodbury at the very least would be to tell Andrea that the Governor had sent a hit squad after her. It stinks worse of LindeLost. Convenient smoke grenades obscuring things so Andrea can take some pot shots at shadowy figures - not a problem. Hole in building, not a problem (beyond the part that no one mentioned - how the hell did the hole get there?). Black man quota? Well, there are a certain amount of spear carriers, though at this point hasn’t the population of 73 in Woodbury been trimmed by about 10 or so. All fighters. Not a whole lot of toughs left at this point, I would imagine. Or did they get the 1-800 HENCHMAN number from John McClane?
Shouldn’t have been that unexpected – The Governor lost his eye and his zombie child to a woman that Merle said he had killed. It is plausible that the Governor actually believes Merle is a traitor, but at the very least he knows he is a failure and untrustworthy.

I thought Merle told the Governor that he killed Michonne a couple of episodes ago.
Well, he said Merle led the terrorists to Woodbury, which he indirectly did by letting Sistuh Samurai get away. Politically, he’s got his ducks in a row.
Exactly, that’s where the trust factor is. Merle says Michonne died, and then during the “terrorist” attack Michonne attacks the Governor, etc. So the line of blame is definitely there.

I watched off the episodes up until the most recent one over the past few days. I quite like the show. Even if the writing can be kind of bland and uninteresting, I feel like the show captures the feel of how people would feel in a zombie apoc. That feeling of helplessness, and fear. The second season was way too long though. I felt the episode with the barn should have happened by episode 3, not 7. I also wish they didn’t kill off Tdog, he was A cool charactar even though he didn’t get a lot of air time.
As per the most recent episode, I am always very skeptical of when a small group of people engage a larger force and they ALL make it out alive, for the most part. I think it would have been much more prudent to handle this is a stealthier way… Like make a diversion…
I’m also not sure I like how this part of the show has been moving away from dealig with the threat of the walkers to dealing with other humans who have survived. I found that watching people struggle against the threat of walkers was much more entertaining. I’m still hoping that they will one day find evidence of a civilization that hasn’t fallen and is heavily fortified.
And I really hope that Darryl survives. He’s turned from someone who I kind of disliked to one of my favorite charactars.
Daryl’s been one of my favorites ever since he silently agreed to help Rick and T-Dog go after Glenn against the kidnappers way back in the fourth episode. Such an especially good moment.

I’m thinking the Governor has set up Merle to be a spy and will find someway to let the brothers escape.
