I also got a lot out of learning Abraham’s backstory - it made him a lot more interesting to me, which of course led me to believe he was going to die that episode. Eugene has always bugged me with the “classified” crap and (along with most people who didn’t even know the comics) figured he was full of it in regards to knowing a cure, but I just didn’t know how full of it he was regarding the rest of his story. Hopefully he’ll redeem himself.
Excellent idea. They could even televise it as a Pay-Per-View Event and winning side keeps the money.

Well, if acid rain wasn’t bad enough, it just figures that zombie rain was bound to happen…
I don’t understand how the van landed like that. It was falling nose first but somehow it rotated backwards enough so it landed flat? Or are we to believe it did a forward 360 during that short drop?

Yeah, I called BS on that as soon as it happened. By all real-world physics rules it should have landed on its roof, given the distance of the fall. The only way it could have landed like that is if the rear of the van had been significantly heavier than the front of it, and it wasn’t, what with them plus the engine in front.

So now we’re complaining that a show about zombies plays fast and loose with the laws of physics?
Eh, I thought the van landing on its feet was weird too, but I let it slide. Maybe a bunch of the zombies were hanging on to the back and we couldn’t see them from our angle.
Overall I thought it was a pretty good episode. What I didn’t quite understand was why the guy who escaped from the hospital and stole Daryl’s and Carol’s weapons headed back to the hospital? After he took the weapons I was thinking there’s no way they would meet up again in that giant city, especially since they’re going in opposite directions. Did he think he was going to break Beth out, all by himself, now that he had a gun and a few crossbow bolts?
I think Noah, I looked up his name, took their weapons and decided to follow them and see what’s up with them. From what we previously saw of the woman who escaped, I don’t think it’s as easy as ‘escape the hospital and run’ and he’s limping too. Noah even said they looked badass, so maybe he was seeing if they’d be approachable and he could join them. I don’t think Beth was on his mind until he realized they knew her.
Stealing their guns seems to be a really, really bad opening gambit to getting on their good side. Darryl thinks he was following them, but I think it’s possible that he was intending to head back to the hospital and take them on alone with the weapons. As fool-hardy as that sounds, it seems more reasonable then rob them ask to join 'em.
My take on it was that he was feeling guilty about Beth and headed back with a half-assed idea that he could break her out, but no real plan and no real belief that he could do it. The only reason they were all in the same place was that it was a convenient place to spy on the hospital.
I’m pretty sure Noah didn’t follow them, and didn’t think they were going to help.

It did a 360, it’s just that they took out the engine so it probably didn’t rotate as readily around the center of mass, so what they filmed vs what happened within the actual story may be only resolved by a crane shot just out of camera view dropping it flat. (In other word’s, not something I need to endlessly nit-pick). I prefer to focus on the cool zombie rain rather than point out that they probably got cracks in their vertebrae and fractured femurs.
i find highly implausible that a gimpy Noah went back for Beth. He even mentioned to Daryl about how they have people and guns, he knows well how impossible it would be for him alone to do anything, even with a rifle. Once armed he could have taken off but to where, to do what? It makes sense to me that he’d just keep an eye on Daryl and Carol. Yes he did take their weapons but giving them back would prove he’s on the up and up wouldn’t it? When Daryl & Carol head towards the hospital that might have really sparked his interest. Then that zombie attack happens and blows his cover.
I find it just as implausible that he thought following Daryl and Carol was a good idea after robbing them. I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.

Where else would Noah go? He’s in the most infested city in Georgia with a gimpy leg and very few supplies. He can hang out in the nearby buildings, or he can die on the streets. It’s just bad (improbably) luck that the building he chose is the same one Darryl and Carol picked.
Next week should be interesting. I’m hoping that, instead of killing everyone, Rick takes the hospital and turns it in to something more like the prison. No more slavery, no more leaving the stronger folks on the streets. Spin up a true community.

I liked Daryl’s ploy with Noah near the end of the episode. The way I see it, he was trying to shake Carol out of her nihilistic tendencies and acted the way he did in order to bring her back. Daryl really is the moral compass for everyone around him. It’s all the more interesting because I don’t think he’s honestly aware of that.
What indication do we have that it was a ploy, and not just Daryl changing his mind?
I thought the same thing as Hepcat. The overdoing it with the cigarettes, his previous scene where he’s burning the bodies. The comments about starting over.
Darryl knows exactly what he’s doing.

I think Daryl’s initial move to prevent Carol from shooting a kid was what caused him to realize he needed to do something to save his friend from herself. As Steps notes, Daryl was acting a little too gruff and heartless in that scene.
I think Noah is being set up to be a pretty good guy. The fact that he teams up with Beth in the first place was only a little mercenary on his part; mostly I think he was trying to help her as much as himself.
Noah was cowering in the parking garage, weaponless and injured and he took the opportunity to rob the Dynamic Duo… but his line was “I need weapons,” which could be interpreted several different ways. I took it to mean that in order to have any (misguided) chance of going back to rescue Beth he knew he needed firepower, and no one who is in year three(ish) of the zombie apocalypse is going to ask two strangers for help rescuing someone.
As for why he was in the hotel/apartment, I think he trying to figure out how to put his new firepower to work. If he was looking to escape he would not have moved closer to the hospital. His surprise at Carol’s “blonde girl” question tells me that he didn’t think they were there for her.
I agree with this. Daryl talks the “murderous hillbilly” talk, but we’ve never actually seen him do something genuinely heartless like leave a teenager to be eaten in front of his friend.
The main problem I have with a Noah went back to rescue Beth scenario is Noah has to get back into the hospital just to let Beth know the plan. He could spend weeks there observing the hospital and never even see Beth, much less communicate with her. He is in no Rambo shape to infiltrate the hospital, find Beth, and they both again leave the hospital- all without getting killed.
So why was he in that particular building, as opposed to all the other buildings that have a view of the hospital? Coincidence is possible but lame writing. I go for a pro-active explanation. He was following them. His plan could have been to see what they are doing, what kind of people are they. If, and only IF, they seemed alright would he then come forward and return their items. He’d then ask to join them. If they say yes he’s in far better position to survive. If they say no or straight out kill him, well that was going to be his fate anyways one way or another.
