I saw somewhere that Washington DC was supposed to be high 90s this weekend. That would be miserable. I have never been to NC but I imagine the humidity there is hellish as well. We are supposed to be near 100 at the end of the 10 day forecast, but the humidity here is near non-existent compared to what you have on the east coast.

Record highs here this weekend. Might hit 100 today. But it’s a moist heat. :P
Yeah Florida is trying to kill people right now. :(
I am pretty sure this fabulous book Sustainable Energy Without the Hot Air by British physicist David Mckay has been discussed before. But it contains lots of great information on the energy use of everything including humans. A Vegan will best case consume 4/KWH per day for their food consumption, for a more typical western diet the amount is 12 KWH/day.
Damned in time and eternity.
I had the pleasure of attending a lecture by the late David McKay speak in Edinburgh, on the topic of his book. It was a really wonderful talk. It’s an utter shame he’s gone - the blog entries surrounding his illness are heartbreaking to read.
That video is from 2014, apparently his thinking hasn’t changed.
That would have been very cool to here him talk. It is pretty special guy to make a book full of numbers so imminently readable. I honestly had no idea he had passed until I went to answer your question, and thought gee I wonder if he has done an update, and saw he had passed.
I just went to his blog, that’s too depressing. Fuck cancer.
We need to document these protests, really, and make them the permanent record. Forty years from now dumb-asses will be saying “it’s not like we really knew, there was a big debate about it!”. Uh, no.
Yeah, he was one of the most impressive speakers I’ve seen. I’m still sad he’s gone.

"I am pleased that the Department of Energy is doing what it can to promote an efficient regulatory system that allows for molecules of U.S. freedom to be exported to the world,” said Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy Steven Winberg
MOLECULES OF MOTHER FUCKING FREEDOM
That is one of the most embarrassing press releases I’ve ever seen come from any government, and that includes stuff from this guy.
It may be risky to discuss the habitability of the planet. Shoot me now
Only if you shoot me first.
Democrats with their extreme “far left” positions risk alienating voters but banning abortions, destroying the environment, or enriching a corrupt oligarchy is apparently just good politics.
Fuck this timeline.
I don’t know. Did you see that Chernobyl series on HBO? This whole nuclear power thing seems dangerous.
After Fukushima I’m hardly sanguine that modern reactors could never have a serious accident, but I’ll take nuclear reactors over the heat-death of human civilization, if it comes to that.
