Was that sarcasm (I hope) or does he really think that’s a good point?

Not sarcasm. He’s just fucking stupid.
You see the planet wont be destroyed, because that’s what people totally mean when they say it’s a threat to the planet. They’re totally talking about the chunk of iron and rock floating in space. Not all the life on said rock.
Its really hard to destroy a planet.

Just have a cosmic ray hit the earth at 99.999x% of the the speed of light where you keep tacking on 9s to that speed until it has enough energy to blow up the earth.
I know people who make a variant of this argument all the time. “Geologists say carbon levels have been this high before and the planet did just fine.” Neglecting to understand (apparently) that humans weren’t living on the planet then.

Yeah I remember an article talking about a past period (maybe 50 million year ago?) where there were alligators living on Baffin island and everything from the equator up to what today are moderate latitudes was basically devoid of life.
I wonder how much land on Baffin island is going for these days…

Well there is that group that refuses to believe the world is that old to begin with.
The ones that wouldnt normally matter but now they are in charge.
Uffdah! I want to not believe you but… :/
I believe we should just mute or block all these fruit loops on the internet. There’s no point wasting any time arguing with them or trying to persuade them otherwise, that’s time wasted that could be better spent elsewhere. Just mute them, every single one, until their entire existence is simply screaming pointlessly into the void, deluded into believing they are having any effect on anything.
Sorry, just had it up to here with all this shit today*.
*today being this week. This month. This year. This decade. You get my drift.

Being blunt, most people already ignore what they disagree with.
You blocking them will do nothing. The people who would need to block them are the people who agree with them, or are undecided.
Let’s feed sushi to the Cows!
Taking away Internet? Now this climate change thing is personal!
Ozymandias of the Watchmen was right.

Well considering how kauju have, at times, been used to represent a literal angry planet I feel having an actual Godzilla arise would be the appropriate answer.
But they may also be, according to many energy experts and engineers, physically impossible. They would require the United States to undertake an infrastructure buildout on a scale not seen since World War II.
So, not at all physically impossible, then.
It’s ambitiously impressive in scope at fixing the world (which it really demands just to fix the climate), so it’ll never happen, but I love the idealism in really giving a damn.
The article doesn’t quote a final value, but 5 million to run a feasibility trial that gave them information on something they may have to do at some point with future tech (or feasible e elsewhere) is not a terrible investment.
