Weinergate?

Porn. Duh.

In addition to the media, apparently his colleagues didn’t like being lied to and made fools of, either.

I am sure if someone you worked with sent you out to lie to the boss, you would be happy to ignore things in his “private life” when the truth came out.

Not only is politics partisan, at that level its also personal and no one wanted to deal with a man who would send his friends and co-workers out to lie for him.

Man, that was surreal. I was channel-surfing and I saw Elliot Spitzer do TV commentary on Wiener. I didn’t know he was a host on CNN. He has some presence and heard he was an attack dog sort of guy on the issues before the whole hooker thing tripped him up. Weiner doesn’t have nearly good a voice though.

Spitzer is actually a very bright guy, albeit one with a huge raging ego (which would explain why he thought he could get away with banging hookers while arresting people for banging hookers). TV pundit is a good fit for him.

Anything important going on in the real world?

Beats me. But there are about 10 billion other threads in P&R, maybe one of them knows?

Trolling on an epic level.

We’re trapped in the Benjy Vortex!

Anthony Weiner Acknowledges More Inappropriate Messages

New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner says he did, indeed, trade lewd messages with a woman after his departure from Congress.

Weiner, if you remember, resigned from his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives due to an extramarital sexting scandal and the lies he told to try to cover up what he had done.

Today, TheDirty.com — described by Buzzfeed as a “nightlife site” — revealed a series of explicit messages and pictures sent from Weiner to an unidentified woman. Weiner confirmed that he sent some of the lewd messages as late as the summer of 2012.

Who’s surprised? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

It’s funny because his name is weiner, and he sends people pictures of his wiener.

He should change his name to … Oscar!

My understanding is that these all date back to the original scandal period, right? Basically, he was chatting up more than one woman. Not really the big revalation that the news is making it out to be.

EDIT: Hmm. Reading some more, they date back to 2012, with some being after his resignation and after his wife found out. Dude must have been really addicted.

I just want to take this opportunity to laugh my head off at every single person in this thread who defended this assclown in any way whatsoever.

Whew… we all have problems, but when this is your problem? You should probably find another line of work.

I think being addicted to extremely inappropriate social messaging pretty should have been a clue for him to just stop participating in politics. I can’t imagine another job where your personal life is more closely scrutinised.

I think it’s interesting that when it was the original scandal, he was seen as a horn-dog, a perv, etc… Now, with the exception of Malathor, the last few posters have started referring to his behaviour as an addiction or a problem that he must not be able to overcome.

When it’s clear that someone’s actions are having a negative impact on their entire life (social, occupational) and yet they can’t stop doing the harmful action, that’s when we start to consider this “addiction”. Or a compulsive behaviour, as I’m more inclined to consider it at this point, with the limited knowledge I have. Maybe a new form of paraphilia, similar to exhibitionism. So, my question for Malathor: how come you don’t think this is a psychological issue? Not that you’re wrong, I just want to understand your thinking. Is it that you believe he’s got complete free will and should just be able to stop doing this, and the fact that he continues to do it, even with the obvious consequences to him in all the domains of his life, means he’s an “assclown”?

Well, even assuming it’s an addiction, he definitely had the free will to decide not to run for Mayor.

As noted in the last couple posts: if you have this problem, and you know that you can’t help doing this, for god’s sake, choose another career.

I think this is a grand political experiment. How many scandals can come out before someone is no longer a viable Mayoral candidate?

“Woah, wait, he’s doing well in the polls? OK, so we know the threshold has not been met. Release some more information and let’s see how the numbers react”

I picture men in lab coats and clipboards chewing on their pens and nodding to themselves
