What are your top 10 played Steam games in hours?

I’ve been looking at my game list and got curious to see which ones I played the most. What are your 10 most played games on Steam in terms of hours? Here’s my list:

One thing I’m noticing is that many of those are my favorites, but not necessarily. Some of them are just very time-consuming. In retrospect, King’s Bounty and Mount & Blade overstayed their welcome. I do not regret a single hour of Desktop Dungeon, though.

EDIT: Added super cool image.

How do you get to the master list of games played ordered by hours?

Y’know I searched for that feature and I’m not sure it exists. I’d like to know if it does! I just scrolled the whole thing for the heck of it (Sooo many games! Did I really buy this?).

Go to your Steam Community user profile, click Games on the right-hand side and it should automatically sort by hours played.

Well, how 'bout that. Thanks. Turns out I missed Dark Souls too! It bumped out Mount & Blade: Warband, so I guess my gamer cred goes up a bit?

Damn, I new there’d be some big numbers in this topic. Otagan, your Payday 2 playtime beats most of my entire list put together.

Wow this is a surprise to me (click to zoom):

Yup. You can check my list on Steam, but I’ll post it here too:

  1. Skyrim (157 hours)
  2. X3: Albion Prelude (117 hours)
  3. Borderlands 2 (73 hours)
  4. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (57 hours)
  5. X Rebirth (55 hours)
  6. Plants vs Zombies (51 hours)
  7. Dark Souls 1 (48 hours)
  8. Starbound (43 hours)
  9. Warframe (43 hours)
  10. Just Cause 2 (37 hours)

I should mention that LEGO Marvel Heroes and Plants vs Zombies are mostly because of my kid, who loved to watch me play those (and later play them himself). And The Last Remnant should be there, but it isn’t because I played it mostly in offline mode, so the hours I played didn’t register with Steam.

I’m a little surprised to see Starbound at 43 hours. I didn’t know I had played it that much, and I remember stopping because I wanted to really play it on release. I suppose it might well beat Skyrim in my list soon enough. :)

Also note that plenty of my most played games are not on Steam (Guild Wars 2, Witcher 1/2/3, Civ 2, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc.) so that list only really reflects the games I play on Steam (when online), not the games I actually played the most.

Most of that was in preparation for a set of updates that turned out to be a complete flop, so I’m not really proud of those hours.

I’m just glad my Call of Duty 4 playtime isn’t on Steam, so I’m safe from having that comfortably at the top.

No real surprises here, except I didn’t think I played Fallout 4 that much.

  1. 98 hrs: Sid Meier’s Civilization V
  2. 82 hrs: RIFT
  3. 75 hrs: Fallout 4
  4. 71 hrs: Torchlight II
  5. 66 hrs: Risen 3 - Titan Lords
  6. 61 hrs: Borderlands 2
  7. 61 hrs: Divinity: Original Sin (Classic)
  8. 58 hrs: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning™
  9. 53 hrs: DARK SOULS III
  10. 48 hrs: Elite Dangerous
  1. GemCraft 177 hours
  2. Grim Dawn 158
  3. Divinity Original Sin 100
  4. Civilization V 88
  5. XCom Enemy Unknown 86
  6. Plants vs Zombies 66
  7. Wasteland 2 55
  8. Defense Grid 52
  9. Torchlight 50
  10. Darkest Dungeon 47

I guess I really like tower defense games.

Mine’s not too exciting

  1. Battlefield BC2 252 hrs
  2. Just Cause 3 116
  3. Fallout 4 79
  4. Wolfenstein, the New order 78
  5. Dota 2 72
  6. Splinter Cell Blacklist 67
  7. Just Cause 2 60
  8. GTA5 53
  9. L4D2 46
  10. Red Faction: Guerilla 43

My list got ruined by Wings of Prey. I think the launcher was still running and it counted that time. It was a decent diversion, but not 212 hours worth!

Very interesting.

  1. DiRT Rally 268 hours
  2. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition 113
  3. DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin 56
  4. Borderlands 36
  5. Bioshock 2 31
  6. Titan Quest: Immortal Throne 30
  7. Saints Row: The Third 27
  8. Supreme Commander 2 27
  9. DiRT 2 27
  10. Torchlight II 24

It’s a good reminder that until recently, most of my big hitters were not played through Steam. Like Path of Exile, I’m sure I have a LOT of hours in that. LOTR Online. Diablo 2. Oh God, Diablo 2. So many hundreds of hours over so many years.

I sometimes leave games running when I go to work and also, for the Football Manager games I would create custom leagues and then run them on vacation mode days at a time to see how the league would hold up with decades simulated so that’s why the hours are a little, skewed.

BTW, in case some of you don’t know yet, one of the cooooooolest features of this new forum is that you can simply copy-paste images right into your post. I use Greenshot to select a region, save to clipboard, then paste to the forum. It’s magic.

Yes! Be aware that 1MB is the limit on overall uploaded image filesize though.

I’m a little weird.

  1. NBA2k13 - 147 hrs
  2. NBA2k12 - 137 hrs
  3. Civilization V - 136 hrs
  4. Skyrim - 128 hrs
  5. Dragon Age: Origins - 92 hrs
  6. Star Trek Online - 88 hrs (plus many not recorded via Steam)
  7. Farming Simulator 2013 - 74 hrs
  8. WWE 2k16 - 69 hrs
  9. Company of Heroes - 56 hrs
  10. Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn - 54 hrs (plus, um, about 510 not launched via Steam cough)

Wow, that’s a lot of hours :-(
Try not to be too judgy…
I too let games idle a lot but even if my idle time is 10-15% my hours are still way high. Many of these games are ones I reviewed, so I was writing while I had the game open. I reviewed Age of Wonders III, Pillars of Eternity, Eador: Masters of a Broken World, Fallen Enchantress: LH.

Actually, The Witcher 3 should be in there but I have it on GOG at over 200 hours.
