Yeah those instructions seem way outdated. I haven’t had an issue like that in a loooooong time. But back in the day I think every online service was suggesting that people open up ports on their routers. I know Everquest and WoW did.

I just had an issue last week. My sister was setting up an old Netgear router I gave her and was having trouble. It’s not an ancient router. It’s an R7000, 802.11AC.

I got everything working except the Switch, which couldn’t connect to Nintendo’s servers. It drove me crazy. The Netgear was on the latest firmware and had been factory reset. But the Switch wouldn’t connect. I looked it up and apparently there are other people reporting the same issue.
