I sorta skipped over the XBox. It was introduced shortly after I stopped reviewing games in 2001 and, eight years later, after using the machine mainly as a DVD player, I’m playing catchup. :) I assembled a bunch of games from eBay and Amazon earlier this year, but
I’d be grateful if folks could point me to significant releases I’ve missed. (I won’t need those that also appeared on PC, as I’ll likely have them.)
Here’s what I put together to date. Be gentle. I’m aware there’s probably a fair amount of crap in here. I should have asked for advice back then! :)

In my opinion, the one absolutely indispensable Xbox title is Jet Set Radio Future. It takes everything that was great about the first one and turns it up to eleven. It was in fact the game that sold me the system. I also highly recommend Phantom Crash, Phantom Dust (similar names, but wildly different, though both esoterically Japanese, games), Soccer Slam, Deathrow, and DOA3 (the best of the series in my opinion).
I really liked the second Mortal Kombat on Xbox, the one with Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat. It’s nowhere close to the best fighting game ever but good fun to mess around in. I was actually thinking about giving it a bit of playtime a few days ago.
A must have Xbox 1 game is Rallisport Challenge 2. That should be the first game on your list. It’s made by DICE and still plays excellently. The Thing is a cool game and an interesting take on “survival horror”.
The highlights that you don’t have people have already mentioned. The Xbox was not a very strong system for exclusives, especially if you game on PC at all. While I bought my system for the few exclusives it does have, I wound up mostly using it for multiplatform releases because the Xbox version of those was usually the best.
Woah! There’s three of us!?!? I thought I was the only one at Qt3 who felt that way about the two Jet Set games. I agree that the sequel took out all the parts I didn’t like about the first one, and improved all the parts that I did like about the original, making it a much, much better game, and my second favorite game on the Xbox (after Halo).
This is the first I’ve heard about a hivemind consensus against JSRF. Of course it doesn’t exactly come up all the time, given that it’s a six-year-old game in a dead franchise.
I gotta say with Smilebit gone and having seen what they did with NiGHTS, I really don’t want Sega to go near that franchise again.
Basically, my issue is that they took out everything I liked about the game. The truth is, though, even if I wasn’t a huge fan of JGR, I still wouldn’t have liked JSRF. But considering I was a fan, JSRF was and is the biggest disappointment I have ever played.
Go on NeoGAF or some other site where console gamers/otaku congregate and you’d see more on both sides. Still, at the price it costs nowadays, which is like $5 and you can even get it paired with a decent GT3 clone, its worth trying.

Knights of the Old Republic
Beyond Good and Evil
Deathrow
Phantom Dust
Gladius
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
