@Jason_McMaster did a giveaway on his stream and I got Sleeping Dogs. I’ve never had much interest in GTA or Saint’s Row because American gangsters bore me to tears, so it’s nice to finally get a chance to enjoy this genre. The developers put an enormous amount of care into accurately recreating the fantasy version of Hong Kong that you see in movies about triads.
But after putting 17 hours into the game this week, I do have a few quibbles with it:
- Any character voiced by Kelly Hu should be romanceable.
- There’s no '80s Cantonese music in it. I gotta have something like this playing just before I gun down a bunch of guys.
- In the karaoke minigame you have to sing “I Fought the Law” like the Clash did, not Bobby Fuller. I’m not really thrilled about that.
If those are my complaints, I guess I must really love this game. If IMDB is to be believed, there’s a movie of it starring Donnie Yen coming out this year.
Looks like Black Desert Online is having a free weekend. Since I haven’t played it since the beta and I’ve been a little curious about how it turned out, I thought I might give that a shot.
Also, some new JRPG’s I just picked up from the GOG sale (Trails in the Sky III, woo hoo)
If there’s any time left over, more Eternal drafts, I guess.
Going to a beer festival Saturday so not sure there will be much gaming. Subnautica wil make a spash though if there is. Also got a hankering to go back to Pillars of Eternity and finish it off, given the sequel is on the radar. I suspect this urge will flame out mind you.
Was Kelly Hu the voice of NotPing (IIRC)? She was adorable if that’s the one you mean.
I loved that game, even though there were side missions (fights) I was never able to beat, even having unlocked all the moves. I really liked the melee combat system.

She’s the cop who gives you the police missions. And she doesn’t even have a lightsaber like she did in KOTOR2.
If you have a PC and the answer is not Subnautica, what is wrong with you?!
Seriously, that is going to eat up all my free time.
Umm… looks @Destarius 's post above…Umm…
I guess I am playing Subnautica.
Along with some Antihero and Railway Empire.
My PC wrote me an excuse: “what is wrong with me? I am sorry, I can’t run it past 10 fps, even on low. 0100110”
Hopefully Nioh, Persona 5, Legend of Heroes : Trails of Cold Steel, a bit of Subnautica, and perhaps even a bit of Ys Seven. We’ll see.
Did Subnautica just come out of EA or something? I do believe I’m going to play it (so according to @Destarius there is nothing wrong with me, even though I am getting over the flu and a big dose of congestion).
That’s exactly what happened. ;)
Probably some Titan Quest, but maybe more Rise of Nations. I really enjoyed that game.
Hey, a question for you on your experience with Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition, namely, how did it run on your machine?
I decided to fire it up today and run it at 1440p since I have a 1080 and an i7 6700, plus a G-sync monitor even, so I figured it would look/run great. Well, it looks good, but bizarrely, the frame rate is all over the place. Especially when I’m driving, it feels like Wei Shen is regularly lifting his foot off the gas. It’s super strange. Since I’m using G-sync, I made sure to turn v-sync off but it didn’t help.

I don’t know if this comparison is useful since I just have some low-end AMD card that’s 5 year old and I only ran it at 1080p, but my framerate started to drop on “high” graphics level and it was glacial at “extreme”. My framerate didn’t change when I was driving. I did have the problem that when my guy sticks his head out the window to shoot, sometimes he acts like I stopped holding down the button for a moment. I don’t know if that’s a bug in the software or my cheap gamepad.
I just beat the game and I’m quite pleased with it. The ending was silly: After slaughtering your way through the city, killing dozens of people, you’re outraged to find out that your boss is… a cop who thinks the ends justify the means. But by videogame standards I liked the story and characters. The shooting wasn’t great, but the brawling and driving was, and it’s one of the more memorable settings for a game I’ve ever played in.

and board games…so far.
SUSD didn’t much like this game…:(
EDIT: back on topic, I’ll be playing Pharaoh. That game has it’s hooks into me so deep it’s not even funny…
I’ve had some of the criticisms of the game recounted. They do not match my experience. It is not a game for everyone, though.
Ended up playing loads of Crusader Kings 2 and having a right old time.
So far, Ys Seven and loads of The Division. Heh. Today should be mostly about The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, since Trails of Cold Steel 2 will come out in Feb 14th and I’d like to finish 1 before that!

Speaking of Ys, lately I’ve been playing that weird NISA ARG where they release a bunch of news on the Ys VIII PC release then take it back a few days later.
