Over the last few days a game came out that really surprised me: Mordhau
It’s basically an improved version of Chivalry (by players of chivalry that wanted a better game)
that has been in development for a few years. There are alpha testers who are incredibly good at the game and just cut through people like crazy.
The game has improved on chivalry like limiting how fast a weapon can move in the air based on mouse movement, so that some of the crazy stuff people did in chivalry won’t work.
The game is doing well , currently at 49k players online.
What’s the long term motivation? Getting better? I have not played Chivalry. Is this like medieval Call of Duty/Battlefield?
I’m watching this guy play: https://www.twitch.tv/giru
He’s apparently the #1 euro player, and having lots of fun.
The game is kind of like a fighting game, except every weapon/character has the same moveset (but different speeds and stats). For me, the motivation is definitely to get better. I don’t feel particularly good at the game, even though I can out-duel a lot of people, there are some very good former chivalry players (and alpha testers who have 1300 hours in the game already).
There’s a variety of game modes to have fun with, like big 25 on 25 objective based skirmishes, a battle royale mode, down to servers where people just duel 1on1. The big servers with objectives can be very chaotic, massive battles going on, horses running around, catapults and archers wreaking havoc, etc.
Another thing I like about it is how customizable it is, you have 16 points you can spend on perks, armor, and weapons, so you can basically make up your own class. The different weapon types feel very different. There’s also a lot of customization in the look of your character.
So yeah, I’d say just having fun in a big battle or getting better at combat is the main motivation for me. I’ve seen some of these alpha players take on almost entire teams by themselves. I like a game with a big skill gap. Or, you can just have fun picking a character with a lute and playing music on the battlefield.
Playing State of Decay 2 on the dread zone difficulty. Early verdict: this was the way that SoD2 was meant to be played.
Once againgain, as much
as I can fit in. 50 hours in, not bored at all. This is something really special y’all.
Plus, for Space Game Junkie, I’ll be doing a lot of one-off videos this weekend, such as:

Along with regular entries of:

Should be a really great weekend!
On Vita, giving Shiren The Wanderer a break this weekend and playing Ys: Memories of Celceta which I started a few days ago. First Ys game for me, liking it so far.
On Xbox: haven’t had much time for gaming lately but plan to make some this weekend. Need to get back to Resident Evil 2 and AC: Syndicate and maybe a little Monster Hunter World. But I have this really strong urge to get the Final Fantasy IX port so I may end up doing just that. Ordering a physical copy of XII so that will be for next weekend.
Tried to play Divinity: Original Sin 2 recently but have only had time to play about 30 minutes at a time and found that amount of time in this game gets me little progress so will save that for when I have more time.
It should be mostly Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Monster Hunter World, and Yakuza Kiwami (gotta finish this before playing my already downloaded/installed Yakuza Kiwami 2).
I might also play things like Stardew Valley and One Finger Death Punch 2. Or even Battle Brothers. We’ll see.
I never end up having as much time to play games on weekends as I think I will, but, fingers crossed, some Spider-Man, some AC Origins or Odyssey, maybe a bit of the old Company of Heroes or its Eastern Front mod*, even.
*regarding that, does it work with the newer Steam version of the game (where they stripped out GFWL)?
Planning on lots of PS4 goodness, including:
And then sneaking in some PC fun, too:

I bought Dark Souls 3 at launch but wasn’t quite in the right head space to get into it. But now it’s really clicking, especially with the ultrawidescreen mod.
KOTOR. I have never finished KOTOR. I’m pretty sure that rescuing Basila (last night) is the furthest I’ve progressed.
Lucky you. That and the sequel are yummy.
I’m pretty sure we all have that one game sitting around that we’re lucky to have missed out on for one reason or another.

Probably some:
a little:
checking out my teams in (and ootp19):

Prey
I played this for only a couple hours when I first bought it, but it was hard to keep at it because of how bad the game is. But at the moment I’m in the mood for a bone dry, dull, lifeless experience as I unwind all weekend. I’ve loaded the game back up, put in 10 more hours or so recently, and plan to keep at it this weekend. This game is a better sleep aid than benadryl.

I learned about Solar Settlers in the Android thread. Fantastic mobile game with a UI that constantly gets in its own way. Once the player learns the best way to avoid misclicks the real challenge becomes winning.
Oh boy, Starsector 0.9.1a is out. That might change my plans.
Haha, ouch. I’ve loved what I’ve played of it. I like to play it when I’ve got a good chunk of time free in the evening, so I can play in the dark.
