Wolfenstein: Youngblood (Xbox GamePass)

I’ve been playing this game nonstop since it came to game pass. I’ve completed 51% of the campaign quests and 57% of the sidequests. I held off on buying the game at release because of all the bad reviews. That was a mistake. It turns out those negavtive reviews are all wrong.

Along with Wolf: Old Blood this is the highlight of a series bogged down with far too many half-baked, melodramatic, failed attempts at gravitas. Skip the cut-scenes and just play the game for gameplay’s sake. There’s a ton of quality gunplay here. And I am quite amused by the twins.

It’s playable and fun in single player now? No problems with brain dead AI partner or anything?

I don’t pay enough attention to her to know how brain dead she is. She adequately draws fire when I need to shoot the back of specific enemies, she’s pretty good about getting me back on my feet when I’ve been downed (unless she’s also been downed), and I find her to be invaluable for dealing with flying drones, which are honestly the only enemy type I can never stand in the Wolf games (I just don’t like wasting ammo on them).

I’m not claiming she’s smart, but I never feel held back because of her.

I think I will take on Runt tomorrow. I can’t put it off forever.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne… still. Though I’m starting to feel the need to play something else. We’ll see.

A lot of Darksiders Genesis and a bit of Dreams surfing.

On Saturday I played some Zombie Army Trilogy because the new 4th game gave me the itch.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 (Steam)

Way back in 2015 I was still so hot on D:OS1 I funded the Kickstarter for this here sequel. I dutifully downloaded and played the early access version. I dutifully downloaded and played the official release. And I dutifully downloaded and played the enhanced edition. In fact, I dutifully break this game out about once a year and dump a dozen hours or so into it before shelving it again. The big problem with this way of playing is that I can never remember how to play and I end up starting over from scratch to have a fresh start… and a dozen hours is barely enough time for me to get halfway through the starting area.

According to Steam I’ve put about 60 hours into this game, and I have to admit that because of my constant restarts those 60 hours have pretty much been spent in the opening act. But this time… THIS TIME I’m going to see the game though. I plan to finish it. I mean, I have to. Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming out soon, and I don’t want this thing sitting sitting there unfinished when the next big epic is released.

One thing that I think will help me finish the game this go round is that I have a better handle on the combat encounters. While I played the first game on the same difficulty as this game, I don’t remember having as many problems there that I do here. I have routinely been getting utterly obliterated in D:OS2 battles, and I think it just comes down to me taking on encounters that might look only a level or two higher than me without taking into account that at low level that difference in power is sorta huge.

So, my squad is doing better now. I feel like I’m still learning the ropes, and I find myself wishing this game had an in-game compendium I could refer to, like the Age of Wonders series. But this time around I’m going to finish this thing. And if I don’t, well, I guess I’ll be talking about this game again next year when I inevitably start over again.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, most likely, though I’ll probably play something else, since I’m missing playing other kinds of games. Just not sure yet what. Probably Rimworld or Oxygen Not Included, or maybe something like Control or even Age of Wonders: Planetfall. We’ll see.

It’s going to be a real mixed bag for me. After two strong months of playing Total War: Warhammer II, I might be winding down a bit, but I’m still going to put some time into my Reikland campaign. I’ve dusted off Divinity Original Sin II and finding it a bit easier this time so I might stick around. I’ve been dabbling in Age of Wonders Planetfall but I’m just terrible at the tactical combat. Finally, I might jump into Division 2 for a bit to see what’s changed.

I looks like a bit of everything for me this week.

I am sort of between games now, having cooled on Wolcen and waiting for Path of Exiles new league to hit next weekend. I am trying to decide between Tera or No Mans Sky.

After months of waiting, my MiSTer came in the mail yesterday.
I’ve barely tried it, but it’s a dream coming true.

Definitely more Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and maybe some Gladius: Relics of War with the new expansion.

It’s not just you. I also have alot of room to improve!

Getting a new gaming laptop today, so I expect to spend a lot of time setting it up. I’m off work next week though, so I’m hoping to catch up on a bunch of PC-only strategy games. I’ve been playing the Xbox exclusively for the last year or two.

On the list are:
Total War: Three Kingdoms
Total War: Warhammer mortal realms campaign
Steel Division 2
Battletech
Stellaris: Federations (later)

I’m roughly 40 hours into a Fallout 4 VR (re)play, and see no sign of letting up.

I might swing a crowbar this weekend. 1.0 is out!

I have Video Game ADD so of course I’m playing a bunch of new games this weekend. Started AC: Odyssey and am really impressed. Origins didn’t do much for me after a few hours so put it aside, but I am really loving Kassandra and her interactions with others so I’m hoping I can stick with this AC game (though I need to get back to Syndicate eventually since I really loved it).

Also playing some more Nier: Automata. It made all these Best Of lists and had all these glowing reviews, and about 6 hours in, it’s a fine game, but I don’t understand what all the hype was about.

Something on Switch Lite. I need to justify having it as I’ve bought about 15 titles since getting it in November and none have really hooked me beside the no-brainer DQ XI and Steamworld Dig which I also have on my 3DS. Every time I want to play a handheld, I reach for my 3DS or Vita (both of which I am still buying physical games for).

Not feeling the magic of the system yet. And a couple of games that showed promise, I stopped playing due to super teeny text size. Though I did start playing Mario & Rabbids last night and am intrigued.

I bought a new keyboard and mouse this past week so tonight I plan to spend at least a little time gaming on the PC. I think I’m going to play some Doom 2016 in preparation for the sequel’s arrival.

Keyboard is a SteelSeries Apex 7…

Mouse is a Razer DeathAdder Elite V1. $30 right now at Best Buy thanks to the release of V2. The differences are there between V1 and V2, but I didn’t think the price justified it.

Busy weekend ahead. For Space Game Junkie:

For my own enjoyment, as much of this as my eyeholes can handle, I love it so very, very much.

Plus several rounds of this:

And more flight training in this:

Will be a great weekend.
