Any recommendation for getting into DCS for a first timer? I’ve been looking at it for years, but have never dipped my toe in. And now there are too many options.
You guys are getting pretty hot over there in bog land, aren’t you. I’m finding the same thing – strapping it on when it’s hot out is no fun.

Get the mirage if you want a relatively modern fighter jet that isn’t overwhelming in complexity. It comes with a perfect set of tutorials and a dang well made campaign.
It’s also a hotrod fighter built for speed but with a fly by wire committee of computers to keep you from killing yourself.
It does not do much against ground targets. If you want a Swiss army knife jet, get the F/A-18 hornet. Underpowered and not entirely done yet, but it does everything.
What rocks your boat? Modern jets with lots of avionics to master, or vintage jets with less overhead but great fun to fly? If the former, I’d go for the F-14 as a piece of art, if the latter the mig-15 or Sabre for fun planes to fly.

The F-14 is without a shadow of a doubt the most beautiful DCS module. It’s a work of art that is beyond the rest. It’s also a huge cantankerous bitch of an aircraft that needs a knowledgeable hand on the stick and rudder while doing a fairly narrow mission set.
It’s not something I’d recommend as babies’ first DCS module.
This weekend I’ve spent some quality time with a rather compelling story driven narrative experience that is by far the most innovative shooter I’ve played in years. I really can’t think of anything else it’s so good, and every other game seems pointless. In fact, every other thing feels pointless.

Last weekend and this, I’ve stolen away some time to go back to ME: Shadow of War. Just need something mindless to take a break from some aging-parent-related IRL stuff that’s going down right now and possibly for the next few weeks (which sucks SO hard-- I guess I’m lucky I didn’t have to deal with it till age 59).
Yeah, the lack of Groove music integration on Forza really bites.
Nothing. Gaming is a life style. Sometimes I just can’t afford it.
Pick whichever high-fidelity plane interests you. As a bit of a casual, the Harrier is probably my favourite - iconic, snug cockpit, fairly simple to fly, and you get cool VTOL capabilities.
Hiking and skateboarding. It’s been a beautiful August, enjoying it before the fall darkness falls.
Just played Help Will Come Tomorrow, pretty hard survival game, although to enjoy the story you need to know russian history a little bit.

Your Discord handle is something else. Hope you didn’t put in your Discord password by mistake.
Oh! Thanks man. Gonna change my password now.
Gah, boredom has struck! I fished around a lot in desperation.
Fallout 76 - Had a great time with this, but after ~120 hours, I’m done. I’ve done all the quests and the only thing left is to grind dailies and events to perfect my build. Which isn’t really fun.
Remnant: From the Ashes - Oh look, it’s Hellscape: London. Except with a far less interesting world and Dark Souls fuckery. The SP was clearly tacked on, though it seems like it might be a fun MP game. I opened my game up to MP and a few dudes joined me. One guy kept bouncing all over the place, like my client couldn’t figure out where he was supposed to be. Or he was a hax0r. Any way, we killed a few mobs then they both left. I dunno. It’s ok.
Phoenix Point - No joke, I’ve started this game at least five times and I get bored after a few hours and leave it. Not sure this attempt is going to be any different. It’s just a total snoozefest.
RAGE 2 - Did I mention I was desperate? The staticky, “glitchy” text pops, the annoying clicky and crunchy guns that sound like they’re made out of legos, the over-the-top RAGE whatever, the overdrive mode where the in-game character says, “this is awesome!” but I almost die and I think, “No, that wasn’t awesome at all, actually.” Despite all the annoying pauses, popups, and “hey wait check this out!” interruptions, I finished the tutorial and made it to my car. Hopefully I can play the game now.
I’m so bored I’m thinking of re-installing WoW. Please send help.
When you’re at that point, you pretty much just need to step away from gaming for a while.
I actually 100% agree with this. If gaming isn’t bringing you joy, maybe step away. I took a two year break from gaming a while back and it’s one of the best things I ever did for myself.
Gaming does bring me joy. Tons of joy. I just need to find the right game.
I had a lot of fun playing FO76, but, I’m done with it now. Thinking of getting Ghost of Tsushima, but, console games give me pause.
I’ve been thinking about that one but it’ll probably be a while for the reasons I mentioned previously. Also I keep hearing that the third person camera isn’t so great.
