This, a thousand times. It seems every time I’m doing one of these things I end up in line behind someone who’s trying to perform a hostile takeover via the ATM or just arrived here from 1803 and is baffled by these strange metallic devices.

People who interrupt a forum thread to tell someone that they sent them mail.

“Hey MegaKilla, I sent you an email!”

Yes, and he’ll get it when it arrives in his god damned inbox. Argh!

I have a soft spot in my heart for movie ticket kiosks because, for whatever reason, people around here won’t use them. So we regularly walk past the long ass line outside, use the kiosk, and are buying popcorn before the line outside has barely moved.

I totally agree, except I now nerdrage over the local Regal cinema that has three kiosks, none of which are ever capable of, you know, printing tickets. PUT A BIG OUT OF ORDER SIGN ON THEM. It’s not that difficult.

Kiosk? How quaint. Print at home!

You’re lucky then. Those kiosks get regular use around and without fail there is at least one person who is at a kiosk when I arrive and is still there when I’m done buying my ticket. They take literally 15-20 minutes to buy tickets. I honestly have no idea what in gods name they’re doing.

What gets me even more is that while people will use the kiosk at movie theaters and ATMs people still won’t pay for gas at the pump around here. They drive up, pump their gas then walk into the store, stand in line and pay with their credit or debit card and buy nothing else. Thanks asshole for taking up the pump for more than twice as long as you needed to.

People who unironically use the word “performant”.

I wouldn’t mind using them here either, if it weren’t for the fact that the fuckers charge me extra to do the work myself.

Nice. Trust corporations to eventually fuck up everything good by gouging.

Rage because someone walked in rather than paid at the pump?

I’ll say it again, patience is a good thing.

I’m fine with being patient if there’s some reason for it, I’m not fine with people wasting my time. There is a difference.

But why are they walking in? What do they gain from it? What do I gain from it?

Nothing.

That’s why people nerd rage over it, you know they’re doing it wrong.

Them doing it wrong is not something you can control. People are always going to be doing X wrong. The only thing you have control over is if you let it bother you are not. So instead of getting upset, smile, maybe take a deep breath and be patient. You will be happier if you just let it go, even if they are doing it wrong.

Matt, you’re doing this nerd-raging thing wrong.

The card reader on the pump has a skimmer on it and they’re not getting their identity stolen.

In the old days, when someone was doing it wrong you’d just hit them with a rock.

And it’s making me so angry!

I have learned a lot from spending many hours in traffic. It’s a very zen experience if you start to break it down and watch everyone and how it all flows. Learned much of patience.

I’m a bit puzzled by the rage about heading into shop after filling up your car. I gather that you can somehow pay at the actual pump in the US then? Haven’t seen that on my travels yet…

Ummm… where in the first world have you been traveling?
