That’s pretty much my thoughts too. Most of what Starlight had said prior I was in agreement with. Not all, but the broad contours matched my thoughts. That post was weird, then things went to crazy town.

Starlight, please take a moment to calm down. As someone sympathetic to your views, and in agreement with many, your posts have become detrimental to your points. You are tilting at windmills, and making even those who agree with you shake our heads. You’ve had good points at times, but it’s getting absurd.

I didn’t object to it–I had difficulty parsing the meaning behind it, which may very well be due to my lack of familiarity with the grammatical nuances of British English. A simple clarification would have sufficed, and would have been greatly appreciated (by me, at least) as I am intrigued by languages and would like to better understand the differences between British and American English.

What I do object to, however, is the significant retroactive alteration of the content of posts. That, and having views attributed to myself which I do not hold, and do not feel I could be reasonably interpreted as expressing.

My intention, well-expressed or not, was to agree that I as well had difficulty parsing that singular sentence in your post. I did not agree with his position up to that point, and it was not my intention to express support of it–or opposition of your position for that matter. Similarly, I did not intend to express an opposition towards the usage of British English, and instead sought clarification for grammatical rules I was (and am still) unfamiliar with.

I don’t ask you to believe me on these points, nor do I expect it. However, I do want to clarify this for the benefit of any others reading this thread.
