Completely understand about the kids thing. We don’t have a place where I can go to watch these shows that is not a common area and most of these have to be watched after they are in bed.
The Sopranos is incredible and recently voted the #1 show OF ALL TIME by the Writers Guild of America if you put any credence in that sort of thing. Many of these shows we are discussing are on that list.
Awww, man. You are missing out. I think with the emergence of dramas on cable (TNT, A&E, AMC, FX, Sundance) and premium channels (HBO, SHowtime, etc,), and serialized dramas specifically, there is really some great television being aired that is far better than the tired a cliched mess the Networks recycle each year.
The pay channels have some good stuff but they are just too repetitive in their content for the money, and to be honest at this stage I am more about reducing the cost of TV than adding to it. We have added netflix and if it wasn’t for ESPN and the Golf Channel I would have no trouble just dropping cable entirely.
Also, between PC gaming 1-1 1/2 hours per night and reading for 45 minutes or so there just isn’t a lot of time left for TV. It isn’t that I wouldn’t like the content, believe me I would love to be watching GOT with everyone, I know there is some good stuff out there, I just don’t care to find it or have the time for it.
I’m pretty sure your wife and I could never be friends because she has no soul. I also cannot give her any TV recommendations because her taste is so terrible. I would also be kind of surprised if she likes anything else on your list of what to try watching.
Oh wait, have you tried watching the new Hawaii Five-O? That seems to keep going.
Seriously though, an actual suggestion for you might be Dexter if you haven’t seen it yet. It starts pretty amazing for the first couple of seasons and then starts having more and more ups and downs in the writing department, but for me the good still outweighs the bad and the good parts are really good. The season with John Lithgow is just spectacular.
Lol, to be fair to my wife she rarely watches TV at all, the fact she is enjoying Hannibal and The Following is a move forward. She would rather read or work (school teacher so busy a lot of evenings) or catch a movie.Dexter i read the book first and thought i would like the series but it never grabbed me, might have to try again. My real loves are reading, especially horror, sci fi and crime with killers. TV i love the same sort of shows and westerns are my all time fav. My wife is not a fan of any of those however vice versa its the same, her reading and shows ont appeal to me.However the is such a wide variety that there is enough cross over for us to watch together than the rest is done individually, kids just put a spanner in the works for now but that will pass.Aso to add in the UK most of our series do not last like the US ones, we get between 6 and 8 episodes. For example Sherlock , Ripper Street, Luther, Death in Paradise, Downton Abbey, Miranda and Luther and the best of all Mrs Browns Boys.So really we fit the US ones in around the UK stuff which is actually pretty different. All makes for a good mix.
