Azzl, you’re absolutely right, I’ll act on my pain by burning down all of EA’s offices, slaughtering all of their employees and cursing their first-born children.
Hopefully, a new IP. CivIV was fantastic, but we don’t V anytime soon. If they do another turn based Civ-esque game, please adopt the tech tree randomness that Sword of the Stars uses.
My wish: They buy the rights to Myth and convert it into a Total War game. Fuck yeah.

I don’t know if I trust Firaxis do make a really great game since Soren Johnson has left. I mean, Civ Rev was good, but the AI was horrendous.
I’d love love love a Civ 5, particularly if it is anywhere near as good as Civ 4 is, and particularly as big a leap forward as it was over Civ 3 gameplay wise.
My dreams involve Civ 5, or a sequel to Alpha Centauri or Master of Magic. I can’t seem to get back into Civ 4 no matter how much I try. I think it’s just not shiny and new enough, which reflects badly on me and not the game.

I’m a huge Civ fan (just voted it as my favorite game in driillSGT’s poll) but I’m not really convinced there’s a need for a Civ5 right now. Has technology improved enough that Firaxis can do something significantly different and better than what Soren did with Civ4?
I’d rather see Firaxis working on something else.

Well maybe not but if I were a game designer that’s what I would do, make one hit game, sell out and blow my stock option profits on hookers and cocaine.
Civ iterations have never been about new technologies or greater processing power. They’ve always been about refining the game mechanics. Although some of the cool eye candy in Civ4 required advanced technology, the basic game could have been done years ago.
Multi-platform something. Sci-fi possibly.
Maybe they can do Alpha Centauri without the name.
I just hope the next project isn’t dumbed down like Sid Meier’s Railroads was.
