Says you.

Well since the end is near, there isn’t much harm in revealing that they are being beamed directly to me.

This is pretty cool:

Want to be what’s happening in space?

Ah, if only I was less old. And lazy.

They are looking for lazy candidates? Where do I sign up? I hope I am not over-qualified!

Every 20-something stoner is lining up to sign on right now.

I thought this was pretty cool:

This is fantastic. “What was happening before the big bang?”

How cool would it be if Betelgeuse actually went supernova in our lifetime? Having a star as bright as a full moon, clearly visible, even during daytime, for about a 100 days… I’d love to see that!

Me too!

Is Betelgeuse too far away to cause other issues, e.g. interactions with the Earth’s magnetosphere or something?

It’s about 700 lightyears away, and as far as I can tell from the stuff I read about it, no issues would arise.

I guess the ejected plasma would take longer than 700 years to get here too, and not be very dense.

Thanks for posting. Brian Greene taught me almost literally everything I know about physics. His book The Fabric of the Cosmos was so so good.

Well, technically it’s already heading towards us and has been for quite some time, probably at a significant fraction of the speed of light behind a bunch of fun radiation, which would likely be the bigger concern if anything.

This book was good enough to just allow me to comprehend something of the subject matter, like a goldfish nibbling on a floating beach ball - no idea what’s really going on with the numbers, but at least understanding the shape of them a little. Remarkable book.

If we’re tossing out physic pop-sci book recommendations, I recommend anything written by Sean Carroll (the physicist, not the biologist, though his books are good too.) I particularly liked his book on entropy: From Eternity to Here.

For the other Sean Carroll, Endless Forms Most Beautiful is great.

here is someone I follow on twitter, who was taking some pics down under

Notice the starlink traces?

Thanks Elon
