Terrific article on SpaceX new facility on South Texas. He is setting up a production line with the goal of building a rocket larger than a Saturn V, every week, holy fuck. Elon is the best kinda of crazy…
Cool pics of recent launch 👉
I found out about the launch accidentally by loading Youtube while in bed. I quickly got dressed and rushed outside to see it for myself from my house (since I live in Orlando, but I always forget to look). Was really awesome to see first hand! I tried to get a video but the auto-focus on my phone wasn’t working great (and I was mostly trying to watch it with my eyeballs not through my phone).
So true: watching it in real life is awesome! We drove from Orlando to the launch site last summer during our holidays in the US, and it was by far the best experience of the entire holiday!
I keep meaning to drive out to a launch (I mean it’s only about an hour away) but too many launches get cancelled and I hear launches always have a ton of traffic. One day though.
I don’t remember Elon Musk being mentioned in The Expanse as the founding father of the Mars Congressional Republic.
If you do decide to make the drive, I recommend Playalinda. That was always closed for shuttle launches, but is open for everything these days, as far as I know. And if the launch gets scrubbed - it is a really lovely beach.
The photo I posted above was taken from a bridge in, I think, Cocoa beach. Not too busy (then again: it was a 6.00 AM launch…) and a great spot. The wave of sound that hits you about a minute after launch is just indescribable, and that alone is a perfect reason to try it sometime, IMO…

Cocoa beach is my home town. I dearly miss it.
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll keep that in mind.

Those are such beautiful pictures.
There’s a launch this morning for those, like me, who still get a thrill out of watching these things.
Bleh, it was aborted at the very last second. Too bad, it turned into such a gorgeous day.
My wife and I went outside to watch and saw the T-0 abort.

New class of Chinese rocket, their future proof class had some kind of failure, maybe catastrophic.

Great analysis on starlink to astronomers.
Technically, the Big Bang wasn’t seen nor was it in the universe. Not an explosion either, but I’ll let that slide.
Boom!

It’s good to see that the Lensmen are still out there doing their duties!
