Dang, watching the 3 mile away video it seems like you’d want some pretty serious ear protection if you were much closer to the launch.

At half it would be price comparable to (checks notes) 20 Falcon Heavy launches. We need a lot better than half before it’s anything but an expensive boondoggle.

Yikes.

Wow who knew that posting YouTube videos on space would lead to an actual trip to the moon.

What an amazing crew they’ve chosen.

Because space needs more EDM.

Here is an animation / interpretation of the Apollo 11 landing that blew me away. I’ve tried to listen to the audio before, but having CC and the animation really puts this into an incredible 11 minutes.

From the Mastodon post I that led me to this:

This is a cool short film that synchs actual audio to dramatic views of the first lunar landing. It feels like it humanizes the achievement. You can read about the descent program alarms but you don’t see the expressions on their faces.

That was really great @Tman. Thanks for posting it!

I remember watching it live on a 12" black and white TV…

That was very cool.

This is a cool blast off and drop off video, and it’s only a minute thirty (sped up by maybe a factor of ten).

Not great for Virgin Orbit, or indeed whatever hopes the UK had of being a space launch site:

Not the only embarrassing thing about the spaceport appparently:

This is very cool:

Latest Humble Book Bundle, FYI.

Whoa, that is insanely cheap for all that.

The man is a hero in many ways. The woman has PHd in Chemical Engineering so, it is not all about the packaging, but I’m sure it doesn’t hurt…

A couple of weeks before getting married. Buzz is writing a lovely obit for another Apollo astronaut.
What an inspiration.
