What's the oldest Great Feelm you have on DVD?

Some very good choices, meine freunde!

Nosferatu (1922). The oldest non-horror (I have all the old Universal classics) movie is Citizen Kane (1941)…Casablanca (1942)

2001: A Space Odyssey would be my oldest. I’d love to get my hands on Forbidden Planet and Hitchcock’s The Birds, though.

After a bit of research, it turns out Ive got a tie between 12 Angry Men and Paths of Glory both from 1957.

However, on VHS I have The Gold Rush from 1925… I still remember I got it for 2.99. What a deal!

Arsenic and Old Lace

The Adventures of Prince Achmed, 1926

Birth of a Nation 1915

Troy

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Is this a “great film”?

The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951). But that’s on laserdisc. Oldest on DVD would be Them! (1954).

Inspiration or research for your game? :)

Everytime I saw those Miracle Gro commercials with James Whitmore, I half expected a giant ant to appear in his garden along with his “giant” plants.

The Golem, or How He Came To Be. (1920)

You get funny looks at Best Buy when you walk up to the counter with Ravenous, Almost Famous, the Disney Robin Hood, and Der Golem. You get really funny looks.

Dr. Strangelove (DVD claims 1963, IMDb 1964).
Some guy snatched the last Metropolis right under my nose the same day
I bought Strangelove. Grr.

I once found a used copy of the Criterion release of Fellini’s 8 1/2 at a pawn shop. It was being sold for about $20 CDN - to give you a context, new Criterions usually sell for anywhere from $60 - $70 up here.

As I brought it up to the counter, and the guy behind me looked over my should and said: “Is that the Criterion 8 1/2?” I said: “No… now, it’s my Criterion 8 1/2”.
