EVGA all the way for me. Their customer service is just superb. I was having trouble either with my new GTX 1080 or my EVGA power supply, it could have been either. I was able to call tech support and immediately get someone really smart who helped me out. On Sunday. During the Superbowl.
EVGA immediately shipped me both a new power supply and GTX 1080 to make sure I was good to go, I just had to return my current parts once I received the replacements.
It’s pretty much EVGA for me for the foreseeable future.

I’ve had good experiences with evga as well. I imagine I will keep buying from them until that changes.
ZOTAC uses cheap fans. Maybe you’ll get lucky and never have a problem with them, but probably not.

Isn’t ZOTAC the company that makes the little form factor gaming pcs? You would think they would make sure they have great cooling on them.
Likewise. For about a decade now.
I can’t speak to their warranty service, as I have never needed to use it.

On the seventh day, God made the warranty service and saw that it was good.

I think I’ve asked before, but now that a few months have passed, what does the hivemind suggest for my upgrade path from a 980ti? This is for gaming at 1440p. I have no desire to upgrade to 4K for the foreseeable future.
980ti basically a 1070 so it’s fine for 1440p, unless you want high refresh rates as well.
2060 would be a small upgrade. It’s like a 1070ti.
2070 would be another smallish upgrade, it’s like a 1080. I wouldn’t bother.
2080 would be a substantial upgrade, it’s like a 1080ti. But it’s $700 and pretty severely overpriced.
Honestly I wouldn’t buy anything, I would wait.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing, but what am I waiting for? Do we think there’s a chance Nvidia is going to launch something like a GTX 1880?
My guess is they’ll drop prices on the RTX line sooner or later.

There will be excitement if that happens or this:
You’ll know shortly after it happens too. The waiting game seems like a forever thing, but this gen it’s not the waiting game… they’re overpriced for what they do.
I already have a 1080, so nothing short of the 2080ti would be a real worthwhile upgrade for me. I don’t think I would buy one even if it dropped down to $700.

Since AMD are MIA (more like AWOL), I kind of doubt nvidia will drop price any time soon. Like Apple, if they are charging a premium and people are still buying in truck load (or forced to buy if they are buying a new system), why drop the price and hurt your own bottom line?
IMO the only time they will start dropping the price is when AMD actually put real competition on the shelf.

You are correct, but there is some evidence that sales are below expectations, so it’s not like there’s no pressure to lower price.
Of course Bitcoin is now rising in value again so maybe they’ll get a second bite of that apple.

There’s a fine line between alienating your early adopters and trying to meet your revenue projections with price cuts. I’d put that line somewhere around July, about 9 months from the RTX series debut. Not buying anything until at least that time.
Recently made the leap from a 960 2Gb up to a 1660ti 6Gb, and I am super pleased with the purchase. I’m a 1080p (and Steam Streaming to the couch) player, and this card absolutely crushes anything I throw at it, all for about $260 (retails for 310 but you can get hefty coupons and free shipping).
It’s so much smaller than the 960 (about 5 inches shorter in length and an inch in height) AND draws significantly less power, all with the hot new GDDR6 memory. Of note, only the “ti” trimmed models carry the new memory so watch out for that when shopping. A great card to consider for the budget minded. Also has the newest NVENC encoding engine, which is a real boon for in home streaming and recording gameplay.
Sure, it’s the same speed as a 1070, that’s a huge upgrade over a 960.
