How far away from the screen do you sit? And how big is your desk?
About 2.5 feet away, just like I did with my old 27" monitor. The desk is 55" by 20".

That was, like, my dream in 1998. A whole wall of screens.
Mine too. Except without bezels! And this thing only cost me $400.

I also really wanted a faucet, like a sink faucet, that dispensed root beer.
When I was younger and could sit and game for 10+ hours I used to tease my wife that all I needed was a small fridge next to my desk filled with diet A&W and a bathroom nearby.
I turn 55 next week and stiffen up way too much if I sit for hours. So my gaming time just comes in smaller chunks. Which is fine, I don’t blow through entire games in just a few nights like I used to.
This. The IKEA one is a terrific value (and you can select your own desktop).

Sounds interesting, but we’ll see what actually comes out.

Also sounds like Intel talked a bit about their gpus at SC19. Mostly about their AI/Compute stuff for HPC not the consumer focused tech. Apparently still targeting next year for a discrete gpu, according to PC Gamer. The HPC product will first show up in 2021 at Argonne National Laboratory.

As part of the keynote speech today, Koduri has explained that Intel will have a single ‘Xe’ architecture but multiple sub-architectures / microarchitectures (or however you want to characterize it in a GPU) in order to address different parts of the market. The ultra-mobile parts of the product stack might focus on small die size and high efficiency libraries, whereas a compute product might have high double-precision performance and run high-performance libraries. Some variants might have the equivalent of tensor accelerators for AI, or some variants might have bigger cache variants to manage specific customer needs. Rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach, it appears that Intel are going to stretch Xe as wide as they need to in order to accommodate as many customers as possible.

Hopper comes after Ampere, and Ampere is the successor to Turing due out in a year or two. So for Hopper we’re looking at what, 2024?
Agree MCM makes sense, anyway.

Did anyone’s GPU idle temps peg higher after recent (latest) driver install? Not sure when it started for me but my idle used to be 40C and now it’s 55-60C from turning on PC left off for a few minutes. Even after shutting down all system tray background apps. GTX 1080 Ti.

I rolled back to 436.30 just now and my idle temps dropped 20 degreees C to 36 C.

Mine is idling pretty darn hot too. I also have a newer driver because i was trying to fix something, forget what.

With version 441.12 mine is idling at 27’ish, which is about normal considering the current temp in the room.

Man these skinned overclocking monitors are so stupid looking

yep. fugly as hell. anachronisms from the taiwanese mobo mfr box arts of the 90s and early oughts.
With 441.20, my 2060 Super is idling at 38 right now. I think that’s normal for my system, nothing unusual. Will you try to upgrade the drivers again to see if the problem returns or just stick with the 436.30 until the next set comes along?
Always wonder why I bother updating drivers so frequently. It’s not as if I play the most recent games all the time, and I’m more worried about breaking older ones than getting every frame out of a new one.
