Key things I took away from their numbers (stolen from theregister.co.uk)
Revenues of $10.9bn were a seven per cent decline from $11.7bn in FY 2019.
Net income of $2.8bn was down 32 per cent from last year’s $4.1bn, in part because of a high tax break Nvidia had last year. Non-GAAP, net income was still down 14 per cent.
Non-GAAP EPS of $5.79 was down 13 per cent.
Data center revenue for the full year was $2.98bn, up two per cent. Gaming reached $5.52bn, down 12 per cent. Professional Visualization brought in $1.2bn, up seven per cent. Automotive reached $700m, up nine per cent. Everything else had revenues of $505m, down 34 per cent.
So in summary, Data Center sales gave them a strong quarter (not year) and they beat analyst expectations, but they are still well off last years performance.

Well, ok, that might all be true (I assume it is), but any financial results that cause the stock to surge 7% would be difficult to describe as “weak.” While I’m sure we’d all prefer that revenue go up every single quarter forever, that’s often not how it works, even year over year, so I think I’ll trust the market over The Reg this time.

Well stocks rise and lower based on expectations right? It’s always assumed that stocks have accounted for certain expectations in their price so if you are expecting bad results but they’re not as bad as you thought, still bad, they can rise, but that doesn’t make the bad results good, it just makes them less bad then expected and therefore not accounted for in the price.

Wow, I hope you don’t manage your own portfolio of long term investments. Market news is often myopically short term focused because many active traders are only going for short term gains. There’s no correlation between traders getting giddy over one good quarter and long term health of a company. Go look at a graph of GE’s stock price over the last five years. It roller-coastered all over the place even though anyone looking at the long term trends could see the company was in trouble.
But short term traders don’t care about long term results, they are getting in and out of a position quickly so they are just playing the bounce game on beats and misses vs analyst projections. Nvidia had a good quarter against analyst projections. Nvidia did not have a good year, and the 32 percent decline in net income is being propped up by growth in all non-gaming divisions. Without that prop, it would likely have been worse.

Yep, terrible year for NVDA.

RE: stock market, I have no fucking idea why shit is still going up right now in general.
Movement is so incredibly disassociated with actual events (i.e. the second largest economy and integral supply chain to the world effectively being shut down for a month or more) right now. No story makes sense.
None of them should be up but they are. I swear the entire fucking thing is green on memes these days
Could someone good with GPU maybe take a glance at this and proffer some advice? My GPU is getting low frames in parts of this game. It’s at 100% usage but seems to be using low power percentage.

Gotta say, this I don’t understand either. I mean without iPhone sales, Apple’s numbers would look really terrible, too. But the whole point of being in multiple businesses is to weather ups and downs.

Expectation are not company health nor long-term persay. I mean we’ve seen companies driven into the ground to get higher returns which makes no sense at all until you see bonuses and investors eating it up before the carcass hits the floor. Stock prices don’t always reflect logical decision making.

Definitely true. It’s totally fine to be a contrarian. Sometimes that pays off handsomely. So if you think Nvidia is the next Worldcom, take action!

I don’t see a problem with the company, but I am also not investing in them.
I’m just explaining that expectations are built into the price of stocks, and when those expectations don’t match what actually happens, you’d expect the price to be “corrected.” It’s an entirely different discussion about whether or not those expectations are based on anything tangible or are reasonable in the first place.

Yeah I don’t have any actual skin in this game, other than through mutual funds, I assume.
I just felt like looking at those results, and Nvidia’s performance over the last year, and proclaiming that they’re doomed was maybe tainted by a bit of bias.
And The Reg isn’t exactly a clean source. I’m not sure if they are still this way, but back in the day they had a grudge against both Microsoft and Intel and any story about them would be very slanted.

Yeah I would think doom is a bit strong, but when it comes to short-term traders, not just the people, but the automation, well there are a lot of rich people doing it as well as a fair amount of losses who don’t brag as much.
Unless someone shows up to pound out AMD and Nvidia, I don’t see either just up and vanishing any time soon. For gamers, our demands are fairly straight forward, and contending with mining, earthquakes, and now illness… it’s not like it would be the first time nor the last time one or even if both of them just disappoint. If they have strong business in other sphere, okay then. Good for them.
Surely Nvidia’s stock will tank once Intel’s amazing GPU releases.

Hardware unboxed has a new in depth video on the new version of DLSS
Apparently the new algorithm are looking good, supposedly allowing you to play Wolfenstein Youngblood with RTX on at 4k on a 2060 with an average FPS of 68.5 and a 1% low of 60. The other good thing about it is the new algorithm apparently does not need per game training, which means it should be easier to integrate into more games.

That is not actually 4k, of course.
Sure but as the video shows, DLSS works well enough in Wolfenstein Youngblood that works better than 4k + TAA and is hard to distinguish from 4k native.

Yeah, but you’re still stuck playing Wolfenstein: Youngblood. No one wants that.
“Our hardware is awesome, but you can only play shit games!” -nVidia
Was thinking today about how I’m holding off on buying a few games because I want the next gen Nvidia card for them. Yeah, they probably won’t be coming this year.
