I’m a decidedly mid-range GPU guy these days and my 1660Ti is great. Assuming this Fall for high-end, when would mid-range parts come out around $300 USD? Next summer is about right for an upgrade for me.

So like a 3060 type of card? Hard to say, in the past I think those cards have shipped later. I still have no idea what Nvidia’s overall price structure is going to look like either. Are they going to go with absurd pricing like the 20-series? Take it up a notch further? Or come back to earth in some small way?
I’m thinking a lot of that is going to depend on how much of a threat they view AMD as with their next GPU.

Mid range could be as late as spring. Depends on what AMD does.
Yeah, I’ve heard the “3060” will arrive anytime from November (unlikely) to Q1 2021. The “3050” will almost assuredly come sometime later next year.
“No, but we promise. For real this time. Integrated Intel graphics won’t suck…”

3090/3080ti pics “leaked”, showing 3 8-pin power connectors for a possible max power usage of 525 watts!
Also Micron supposedly posted a reference to the 3090 having 12GB GDDR6x on their website, confirming the name. It looks like they subsequently changed the PDF to remove it, if you believe VideoCardz.com, which is not a particularly reliable source.
Some of these power use rumours bewilder me :(
Ahh that sweet sweet $2k video card.
That will also be the increase in your electrical bill!
Jezz, gonna need a dedicated room AC unit to deal with the heat output if true. Or maybe I’ll install a vent in my house to push all the heat outside, like an oven hood for my pc…
Run 2 500W cards in SLI and you can boil the water for your tea. That’s a saving right there.
These will be the first video cards that require people to upgrade their electrical system so their fuse boxes don’t melt.

I can’t wait for the end of the month when we (hopefully) get some real information as opposed to Baidu speculation.

Naw, toaster ovens and hair dryers are commonly 1800w. If you have an overloaded circuit it could be a problem though.
If the 3080 is going to be priced at the 2080TI level, then I guess I’m going to be on my 1080 for the next few years sheesh
Edit: For perspective, I bought my 1080 used for ~$300 a few years back, so I am not big on spending much more than that amount for an upgrade.

I’m starting to feel guilt over that free GPU I’m gonna get, will have to upgrade the PSU as well.

If the 3080 is 40% faster than the 2080ti at $1200, then the 3070 should at minimum be equivalent to the 2080ti in rasterization (and MUCH faster in raytracing) and ought to cost around $700, the same as your 1080 cost a bunch of years ago. That’s the sweet spot for enthusiasts and it would be a huge performance upgrade for you (and me, I have a 1080 also).
If that’s true, then Nvidia is doing well this generation. Ignoring Turing bullshit, typically the x70 would be roughly equivalent to the x80ti of the previous generation. That’s what this would be, and that’s great. Prices are still inflated from Turing, but the performance is there.
Thank AMD for that, Navi2 is looking very promising. All the rumors point to it competing with the 3080 at 2080ti +25% or so, and AMD will probably undercut pricing too.
