Partially true. They didn’t need the LEDs anymore because the natural molten glow provides plenty of illumination.

Err, hmm. That’s an odd way to put it. My desired experience is independent of what the latest game consoles are doing. It probably aligns with that experience 80-90% of the time, but it’s not an end in itself.

I think that the general point is that engines and the games that will really stress the new cards will generally also be targeting the new consoles, so (graphically) high end games are likely to lean into RTX going forward because the install base for consoles eclipses the install base of high end video cards.

My interest in the 3090 has just gone from very little (too expensive) to none (too big). Got my eyes on the 3080 now.

I’d be all over the 3090 if I could actually fit it in my case. Judging by that picture, that is not going to happen. So unless EVGA makes something a bit more reasonably sized, it’s looking like I’m going 3080 also. Which is just as well, since I’m kinda wanting to pick up an HP Reverb G2 to go along with it.

I have enough room in my Fractal case, and a new-ish 850W PSU, so I’m likely the target idiot for the 3090. If I were more chill, I’d wait for AMD to make prices sane. It’ll depend on the price and the performance difference between the 3080 and the 3090. If the 3090 is near the $2k mark, forget it. However if it’s about $1400, there’s a 20% performance difference between the 3080 & 3090, and since I recouped most of my money selling the 2080 Ti FE, well…

I want a new card in my system before Cyberpunk hits, so I’ll probably be Nvidia’s Huckleberry.
