Which is evidence back to my actual original point that Nvidia is really good at controlling the market. They sold the shit out of ray-tracing and here we are.

Sorry, I was supposed to stop. :(

That’s my point, yes. Not a perfect analogy.

Yeah, that makes sense. They had the luxury of zero pressure to focus on performance

All this talk has me thinking about AMD in GPU market like:

I think they have been focused on CPU for a while, would like to see them come out hard in GPU space. Nvidia getting top end over $1000 last couple gens is a damn travesty. That’s two high end consoles.

This is Canadian.

There’s STILL only 12 games or so after 2 years with various levels of middling FX with a huge performance hit unless you use DLSS too.

They did indeed focus on CPUs. They made a deliberate choice to invest more in CPU than GPU development a couple years back-- as I recall this was like 2015.

And they’ve basically wrecked Intel at this point (well, mostly it was all the vulns but they were well-positioned to exploit).

Even ignoring spectre AMD just plain has a better CPU product. Intel’s failure to make their 10nm and 7nm processes work destroyed them for consumers. Nobody’s buying Intel outside the DC and OEMs with contractual obligations.

Intel’s upcoming discrete video is just trying to compete with integrated Radeon without RT?

Intel is trying to say it will offer real enthusiast level performance. The leaks say its power requirements with multiple tiles make that very unlikely, but a single tile would easily compete with AMD iGPUs.

I know. That’s still $1,033 USD.

Nvidia just showed off a 3070 that offers 2080ti performance, along with all those new features, for $499.

$1,033 for a 2080ti now is stupid. The 2080ti’s value was kneecapped yesterday.

Oh yeah, I know. The pic was mocking a ton of people who tried to resell their cards too late yesterday which fake excuses, reasons and/or ignorance of pricing realities.

Sorry I got a little testy there, I shouldn’t be arguing with anyone today. I’ve got some stuff going on and it’s made me be in “a mood”. My apologies.

Not a problem I don’t get offended easily!

The marble demo yesterday was gorgeous and zen. I wish they’d release that for new card owners to enjoy.

Someone is trying to drive prices down

More chat from Digital Foundry…

There’s rumors that preorders will not be taken & there will be limited stock until next year.

Fun paper launch?

Wow, it really was there behind the spatulas the whole time.

Pricing low while also not being able to meet peak demand (or anywhere near it) seems like a bad combination. For now there’s no competition – I expect them to take advantage of that.

That said, I also have my nowinstock alerts set.
