They must have a lot of extra stock in Asia. Like I said earlier, typically you won’t see price cuts at all so I would not expect to see that happen here.

Bots are probably the new normal. The next set of releases will probably have more countermeasures.
I wonder if we’ll see auctions.
Maybe we can have a video card lottery!

Local store here limited 1 card per ‘account’. All sold out. Maybe they get some in November.
I don’t get the rush, it’s not like someone’s going to spoil the card for you if you wait a few weeks…

You don’t understand the frustration of wanting something, having the money in your hand ready to spend, and being unable to buy it? What a unique perspective you must have.
I understand the frustration once you get to the place to buy it, I don’t get the rush to get it now, now, now, it’s not like the latest “you need a 30XX to play” game is out yet.
Or maybe I’ve mentally put these cards in a “not realistically available until 2021” box.
MLID with a really long video on all the recent news. He’s been spot-on about Ampere: it runs really hot, availability will be extremely scarce, etc. He reaffirms that he is hearing Big Navi is coming to play. The 3070-equivalent will beat the 3070. The 3080-equivalent will go toe-to-toe.
Pro tip: watch it on YouTube and click on show more to find the timemarks to the various discussions in the video.
The problem is that this may cause prolonged shortages of the cards, which means like past cards these may end up way above MSRP for months if you can’t beat the bots on the MSRP ones. Not only from scalpers but from AIBs raising prices due to low supply and high demand. So waiting may actually end up costing more if you wanted to upgrade.

GamersNexus thought some more supply coming to vendors through September, real supply in October.
You’ve clearly not played MSFS then.
From what I’ve read, a 30XX isn’t quite enough yet. :D

I’m building a new system so I’ve been waiting on the Zen 3 details before pulling the trigger, so at least it didn’t make this launch super frustrating for me. Was still tempted to grab a 3080 + Intel build at Origin PC, though, but no… gonna wait for Zen 3. You hear me, Kevin? You will wait for the Zen 3!

Nor did the developers, or they’d have used Vulkan/DX12?

I went to a few retail shops here and while they all carry stocks, they are only selling the 3080s to people who buy a complete PC from them. What scumbags!
Some of us have been waiting for Ray Tracing to mature to try out titles like Metro Exodus, Control, and the like. Others have been stuck on 900-series cards for a long time, and are finally eager to pull the trigger and revisit old favorites with higher settings and/or frame rates. It’s a video card, all the usual reasons to want a faster one apply.
Also, I don’t know if this is a “rush” per se - rather imagine going to buy a car you had saved up for and no one has it for sale - bots scooped them up or something - and here you are with money, means, and time and still can’t buy this dumb car you spent the last year being pretty excited for. Sure, no one will “spoil” the car for you, but you still don’t get to drive it until you can finally find one in stock. Try to be more empathic to those that are really into this kind of thing.
My theory is this is more for the VR crowd, but that’s just a guess. I’m on 1440p and I suspect by the time I need more than 10GB of VRAM I’ll be looking at the sexy 5080 cards that are about to come out.
So when was “Big Navi” supposed to be released? The more I think about it the more I think I may want to get the 20 GB card since I’m going to be pushing 4K / Reverb G2.
