I believe their plan was to have a limited launch ala Nintendo but Not this bad.

Hopefully its the CAPTCHA where you have to slide the puzzle piece, otherwise I always mess up the bus/traffic light/crosswalk ones.

I don’t know why you would need to wait for the NDA to lift. Even the numbers that Nvidia showed in its presentation don’t come close to justifying doubling the price of the 3080. There’s no reason whatsoever to buy a 3090 unless you’re willing to throw money away.

Robot detected.

Speaking of throwing money away… Surely these idiots won’t succeed in selling these?

(This morning on Amazon)

I wonder if one can make a contract clause setting out that the purchase of the cards is for consumer use of the product and resale within the first 3 months constitutes a breach of contract and profits must be disgorged to NVIDIA. That would at least make eBay and Amazon consider whether they would be liable for tortious interference and be hit up for damages? Hmmm.

It would be almost impossible to enforce. The penalty probably won’t even cover lawyer or court fee to enforce the contract.

Yeah it wouldn’t be worth the time in court which is probably why most don’t even bother. Reselling is the world we live in. Creators just need to figure out how to deal with that.

First sale doctrine forbids this.

Yep, can’t be done. All they can do is try to stop people from purchasing more than one, and try to block bots. So you don’t allow the same credit card, IP address, or shipping address multiple times, and you use captchas.

So basically:

There was LOT of demand, OK you guys! Plus NVidia are only a little incompetent, so we don’t know why you guys are pissed! Like. You gamerz are being such a bitch about giving us all of your money as quickly as possible.

Instantly, the NVIDIA store was inundated with over 10 times the traffic of our previous generation launch,

Well their last launch was kind of a dud… so

Uh… sure?

Even if Nvidia wraps the first units off the line as the “Gold tester” and requires everyone to sign testing and licensing agreements distinct from sale?

Sorry, these reseller idiots just annoy me so much. I guess one other option is to ask for full ID verification before you can buy a set.

EVGA had a blip of 3080s on sale from their own site, around 6pm EST. Naturally, they went out of stock in moments.

I hope scalpers pick these up and fail to sell them on.

If that 10% performance bump leak is true from the other day, anyone buying a 3090 for gaming , while looking at the price/performance, is in need of batman slap.

On the other hand, every person buying a 3090 means there’s one fewer person buying a 3080, freeing up supply for me!

Would this put the 3080s or ti/whatever at around $1000? I suspect in 6 months there wont be anymore vanilla 3080.

Depends on the Radeon 6000 series. If they can somehow match the 3080 in performance and at the same price, while offering more memory. The vanilla 3080 will disappear.

We can hope for such competition. To get Nvidia to get lower their damn prices down.
