Maybe, but it’ll look a lot better with Glide.
That’s six consecutive days of having a 3080 type card in a cart and having it disappear while attempting to checkout. (Twice today, once with EVGA, once with Nvidia. So seven total purchase attempts.)
Why does Nvidia/EVGA not want my money?

The scalpers pay them more.

LOL. The other NYC Craigslist $900 FE dude just emailed me back. Sounds legit to me!!!
*The video card is located in Benton ready for transit and it can be delivered to a designated location of your choice with no cost, with a 48 hours return policy if it is not as I described. The 48 hours inspection period will allow you to check the video card and make sure that it is exactly as I described before making the final purchase. If the video card is not as I described, then you return it back at my expense, but I am sure that it will not be the case because there is nothing wrong with it as it’s new. If you are serious and have sufficient money to buy it, then all I need is your full name and address to make the paperwork, a shipping address and a phone number where the shipping company can contact you for an appointment once they reach in your area.
Amazon offer a program that is created especially for this type of transaction that protects both of us. Regarding the transaction, you will send the funds to Amazon and they will keep the money until you receive the video card and inspect it. In this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.*
I want to conduct this deal in good terms for both of us, I have been screwed once and I don’t want that to happen once again. I’m a professional person, I don’t have time either to mess people about or to have my time wasted.

Yeah, obviously you only make the transaction in-person.
Gotta take it philosophically, leave the twitter bot and nowinstock notifications on and eventually we’ll all get one. Shrug.

That’s not technically accurate is it? The scalpers pay nVidia the same amount that a non-scalper would and then pocket the difference themselves.
If nVidia really wanted to make more money, they could tack on an early-bird charge of a few hundred dollars which would drop to standard pricing as supply increased, that might help get rid of the scalpers, although it might not be worth the bad publicity it would probably generate.

Until I lucked out locally, I was running that Nvidia Snatcher script. It doesn’t buy anything, but it’ll open a tab to the product page if it detects inventory. I disabled all the SMS/Gmail/Telegraph notifications, since I work at my desk most of the day, a browser tab opening is good enough.

The only way to get rid of scalpers that I can think of is the following:
- People who buy a 3080 at launch have to email Nvidia the store invoice and a picture of their driver’s license (to match names) to get the card ‘activated’.
- This requirement disappears after a few months.
I imagine implementation of the above would cause problems, but there’s no way to stop scalpers without somehow crippling the functionality of resold video cards. Or, you know, don’t release the product until you have ALOT of them made. But that seems to be beyond Nvidia’s reach.
DRM for hardware like that would not go over well…

Well, a lot of people would dislike it (as they should) but a lot of people wouldn’t care (as long as they’ll get shinies) which means it could probably be implemented at some point like every other shit thing. Guess they do not because it would add cost.
Believe some server hardware was/still is like this, requiring a license key to be input to “unlock” features already in the box you’ve purchased.

Another option that I would personally love is for Nvidia to disable their cards for cryptocurrency mining somehow. It would be one of those rare cases where both videogames and the environment benefit significantly from the same event.
Of course it will never happen, but it’s still nice to dream. Can you imagine a world without scalpers and crypto miners?

Noice!
Meanwhile, I realized, in my installation haze of excitement, I had used a single cable from my modular PSU w/ two 8-pin connectors to plug into the 12-pin adapter. I dug through all my bins to find another modular 8-pin cable so I could power this monstrosity from two independent cables.
I’ll definitely pick up Corsair’s custom 12-pin modular cable once they start selling.

Did that actually work? Would think you’d run into severe power issues.

It worked! I didn’t have much time to actually game on it. I ran the Horizon Zero Dawn benchmark is about it. Much more at ease now that I’ve got it properly wired.

Yeah, one of those 8pin cables must have been pulling way more power than its spec.

New machine arrived. Looks great. Haven’t benchmarked yet but it emits a constant high pitched whine. Sound like the maybe power supply, and I even upgraded to a platinum model. Sadly it will need to go back. God dammit.
Edit: After pressing my ear to everything a million times, maybe it’s not the PS. I think the 3080 is giving off some coil whine. Oddly it’s not load related. The second the machine powers up it starts and it is constant in sound and pitch. Damn my super sensitive hearing.
Despite the slight background noise of a cricket on meth I finally ran 3DMark. Timespy score 16,737.

Yeah i ran that script for a few days straight & hit one (1) 3080 card i could both get into a shopping cart and check out with. Now we’ll see if Office Depot actually ship the thing late next week. When we talked with them tonight they said that they don’t stock them directly. They’re just selling through their manufacturer’s allotment and then having the maker send direct.
Here’s hoping / fingers crossed My fear is that they over-allocated & will cancel at the last minute, but we’ll see. Hopefully just paranoid after this ludicrously bad launch.
Now to decide on buying a Zen 2 / 570x motherboard / RAM in the meantime vs waiting a month or more.

At what time of day (and what time zone are you in) are you finding anything in stock? I check every morning around 6:30am EST and have never seen any card in stock.
