Looks like our results are very close to each other - this is with a 5Ghz Overclock on my CPU I put in place this morning. I don’t typically run my CPU OC’d though, I’ll likely load my non-OC BIOS profile back up here and go back to normal, and having it or not having it was only a 250 point swing in the score anyway. I meant to OC the GPU but completely forgot, oops. Ah well. I don’t find OC the CPU or GPU to be very useful, hardly at all, and especially not for the extra heat generation - who needs it.

Hmm, not exactly a ringing endorsement…haha. Sorry :)
This does indeed suck, I wonder if it s a loose fan or something from shipping. Poke around and tighten everything?
You can always boot with the card out to verify who’s the whiny one.

Oh sweet summer child. That tactic will only work in a few months. The stock pops randomly day or night and is gone in roughly 5 seconds at best. Without a tracker of some sort you are left to randomly check and refresh. That can work as I have gotten 2 in my cart that way but I keep browsers open all day while I work. Of course I could not complete either of those or the other 8 or so that I have gotten into a cart.

I wonder what graphics card a premium gaming PC has in it.

Despite being a spectacularly bad value, RTX 3090 was a repeat of last week.
I looked and it was listed as 2080ti in SLI but I have doubts that’s as useful in real gaming vs this benchmark, which I believe is SLI ready, unlike most games, seems like.
EDIT: I found a video showing off several games with a 2080 Ti SLI vs a 3080 and the results are interesting - most games are neck in neck, with the 3080 having the advantage more often than not, especially in 4K. I only skimmed the video, so there could be instances where the SLI has a real lead (any time I saw a lead it was like 3 fps average), but I saw more moments where the 3080 was ahead anywhere from a little bit to a good amount.

EVGA finally added captcha to their website this morning… and then :
Note: There will not be any GeForce RTX 3080 cards available from http://EVGA.com today.
Meanwhile their site is completely down from the 3090 gold rush that last .5 seconds and there are hundreds on ebay at 2k+
Perfect! This is all so very stupid.

I got the twitter bot up, Nvidia snatcher running (i think), and a discord channel open. I am going to give it one more go today and maybe tomorrow before giving up as I am going to the beach next week and don’t need the headache :). I’ll decide on Friday to just order a custom build or wait till AMD. I will not play the refresh game after this week, it’s no longer fun.

The whole launch is a mess, but the efficacy of the 3090 is non-existent for gamers. A 10-15% increase for more than double the cost.

That and it can’t really play games at 8k unless you are cool with console like 30 fps on the few games that can run it. Their entire marketing this go round is full of shit. Worse than it ever has been and borderline lying. Still the 3080 beats the pants of my 2060 so willing to give them money anyhow which is sad.

I paired it with an i9-10850k, Asus TUF Z490 motherboard, and 3200 speed memory. The breakdown was:
Graphics Score: 17,353
CPU Score: 13,936
The whine seems lower in volume this morning (after leaving the machine on al night to download MSFS content, not exactly a burn in). It is super high pitched. At first I was wondering how the builder didn’t notice, but my wife can’t hear it at all so it may really be my extra sensitive hearing.
Edit: After a shutdown and dismount it appears it’s not actually the video card that whines. Which unfortunately means it’s probably the motherboard. Damn whiny machine.
People are going to buy the 3090 for gaming anyway, no matter what they’re told. More money than sense.
Hasn’t it always been like this, though?

I absolutely love this comment in the context of a thread full of wailing and gnashing of teeth at being unable to get the latest video card right after launch.

I saw mentioned on Reddit and ResetERA, people seem to be buying new RTX2070/2080 cards now that are EVGA brand and then just doing the set-up option. They are locking themselves in for a guaranteed upgrade spot, for a minimal extra amount out of pocket.
Wonder how many months of wait time they’re up to by now.

Doesn’t seem right, maybe Z490 ?
