This is the most obvious proof that everyone at Nvidia etc are idiots. So easy to solve this problem.

If it helps to think about this way, consider this game has no replayability whatsoever, so enjoy it while you can! :)

Don’t interpret this question as being judgy, that’s not how I mean it. Are you without a GPU right now or otherwise in desperate need of the card, or just an upgrade you’ve been looking forward to? Because playing that game sounds like torture, I’ve just put it off mentally for now as ā€œnot availableā€ for at least a couple months. But then, I have a system with a GTX 1080 which can handle games fine, so I’m okay in the meantime.

Anyway, that sounds frustrating as hell. Ugh.

Hah! Eh … um … looks sheepishly at Newegg cart with PSU sitting in it

I have a 1080 as well, and a new LG 1440p 144hz monitor.

The biggest thing is I’ve been saving for a card for almost a year since we heard whispers of them. I want it a lot.

I give two shits if anyone thinks I’m ā€˜dumb’ or ā€˜stupid’ for playing this ā€˜game’ right now, to be honest. I keep hitting quit-smoking walls, for instance lately I’ve just been in pain and can’t play anything, or I’ve been without enough sleep for a week at a time and am too tired to do anything but look for a card. Why not?

I’ve been without a GPU since January, with only a an Intel 630 on the CPU for the time being, and even I’m avoiding getting caught up too much in the RTX madness. I want one, I’ll buy one - eventually. I don’t have nearly enough patience to deal with their ordering nightmare to worry much about it for now. Until then, it’s all retro/pixel art games

This is muy cool. Comparable performance to the stock 3080 at 240W ish .

Have a look at HPET timings and bcdedit options if you want to struggle, or see if you can get everything to lag with the mouse polling rate at 1000hz.

I hope my disclaimer made it clear I don’t think that. I wasn’t sure if this was directed at me or just in general.

In any case, I’ve been chomping at the bit myself. I had planned for a 2080Ti but we all know how that generation turned out. This upgrade has been a long time coming.

Youch! Hopefully Nvidia gets their production issues fixed (whatever they might be) or AMD knocks it out of the park or something. Supply being this sparse seems more than a little ridiculous.

@Knightsaber also sent me this information, so I gave it a try and the results were… very interesting.

I still have Metro Exodus installed so I used it as my benchmark. All settings were 2560x1440p with the RTX/Ultra Preset (RTX High/DLSS ON).

Here are the results with the normal power curve:
image

GPU-z (sorted by GPU Chip Wattage Draw):

Note I generally drew about 315-318W for the board and 171-174W for the chip, with a running temp as high as 61.

Here are the results with the custom power curve:

GPUz (again sorted by GPU Chip Power Draw):

EDIT: Now that I have the correct resolution, I see I took a pretty significant hit for only shaving 10W of power and a few degrees off the temps, as well. I think I’ll roll back to where it was at before.

Did you change resolution between tests?

The second chart says 1080p as opposed to 1440p so it seems that way.

Ack. Not intentionally, I had closed the benchmark and it always defaults to 1080p, LOL. That makes a LOT more sense. Hang on, I’ll run it again.

Nah it’s just been a tough two weeks all over. Add on my hypochondria and being exposed to a non immediate family member today for the first time in 7 months. All the weight I’m gaining since quitting smoking says hi. I am one irritable dude right now. You’d think I was still on my first three days instead of going on my third month.

And lately I just can’t sleep more than six hours or so and I am just not able to handle that.

Sorry about the rant, but a card sure would make this more fun. I want to oooh and ahh at ray-tracing in person for the first time and watch my G-sync mean business without my card screaming in terror.

Mostly what sucks is saving up for it, and like an idiot, assuming it was the same deal as when I got my 1080, just ordering one and waiting for it. How silly of me.

So yeah I’m snippy. It’s not specific to anyone. Ask Scott, I bite his head off for no reason on the regular.

I’m kind of surprised they didn’t open with a higher price and drop it after six months. It would help vendors clear the 20xx stock, raise more revenue and reduce the supply crunch. I guess they don’t want to set a precendent for the cards getting substantially cheaper if you wait.

Will the new AMD video cards do raytracing?

I heard yes. I wonder if they’ll do drivers, though.

I LOL’d

The GPU_Z results look identical between the two cases… I don’t think you pasted the new ones :)
