Oops! Well, this is why I don’t do this professionally! Fixed!

So a few % cost in performance seems to have saved you a few % in power, from your 1st few rows there. Not much to write home about. Thanks for investigating :)

I wonder if 4k makes a difference.

That’s possible - I would guess the spread would be a little bigger, but ultimately you need even more FPS in 4K gaming since I suspect staying over 60 min would be that much harder, especially in newer games that lack DLSS2 support. @Knightsaber tells me the FE cards might get better returns on reducing power, and I may have just “lost” the silicon lottery, so YMMV.

Not ‘lost’, just didn’t ‘win’. At least you didn’t get a randomly crashing card.

That’s no joke.

Try running No Man’s Sky in VR… :P

They’re saying Oct 29th for the 3070 now, which I think is later than planned but about when the AMD announcement is. The AMD thing is supposed to be the 28th, but I don’t know what that means for cards on sale.

@Scotch_Lufkin do you own any VR goggles? If so, could you check out how the modern combat flight sims do with it?

Sorry, I don’t own any VR stuff. Nor any combat flight sims! Not for a lack of interest really, just haven’t gotten into VR (yet?) and flight sims, while a genre I think is really cool, isn’t one that I have done a lot with over the years. The last combat sim I played was either Tie Fighter or Gunship 2000. Or maybe Elite Dangerous, I suppose, that’s probably a bit more recent.

3070 compared to 2080 Ti (and 2070) according to nVidia. Better graph in the link.

Nice. I still wish the 70 line of cards was $100 cheaper, but that’s pretty impressive performance, depending on what they’re doing with their unlabeled Y-axis, of course.

Edit: Oh hey, the Y-axis is labeled on the actual image if I follow the link. You should have included it in your screenshot Alistair!

There you go :)

I would qualify elite dangerous as a space combat sim.

Anyway, jump on in, the water’s warm. Sim’s these days are great, albeit few can make as great a game of it as the Good Old Microprose Sims of Yore. Still, the basic thrill of dancing among the clouds in a spitfire while fighting nazi’s in their obscenely efficient messerschmitts is unparalleled with current tech.

That 3080 should drive any headset perfectly, including the hi-rez HP reverb G2.

FINALLY got an order in. Best Buy, Gigabyte 3080 OC, the 1800Mhz one, so it’s actually clocked really high. $750.

What a pain in the ass.

Supposed to arrive Oct 12. They’d better ship the damn thing.

I went to the Best Buy page and it loaded with an ‘Add To Cart’ button, but then it refreshed to ‘Out of Stock’. So I feel like I had a moral victory there.

I had to try multiple times, and in the end pasting in this URL after adding to the cart did it.

Gigabyte isn’t my preference, would prefer EVGA or Asus, but it’s fine. Zotac is unacceptable and I wouldn’t be happy with MSI (although MSI is really fine too).

The card has a dual BIOS too, which I really like. No stress about messing up a flash. And a 4 year warranty. So I feel like I did OK.

I had a full out chance at an MSI the other day and didn’t take it.

I’m being picky, I guess.

Yay (seriously)! Hope you get it soonish!

Diego

I passed on Zotacs multiple times and a MSI once myself, yep. Silly of me, the MSI is fine, but there’s just something about paying so much money for a plastic backplate that pisses me off.

EVGA, FE or nothing over here at my place. That’s just how it’s gonna be. :)
