Welp, I guess that explains why CDW hasn’t had any movement on my back ordered MSI card yet.

If it weren’t for the queue that I been in for quite some time, I’d cancel my MSI card over this. I am very much dropping MSI for future buys, ASUS it is for me (again).

Haaaaay guyyyyz, have you heard of this thing, the 3080? It’s really fast. Twice as fast as my old 1080, in fact.

Almost a zero chance they accidently got a hold of some inventory sold it for over MSRP on Ebay. It’s always fun when a company is caught though.

I can’t even get it to clock up in ESO. It sits at like 1335Mhz and whole system power usage of 204w.

I get >500w in 3dmark, though.

Twice as fast, my ass.

Twice as fast as my old 1080, not a 2080.

I’m getting around 120fps in Control at 1440p with everything maxed including ray-tracing. DLSS quality mode.

Definitely eats power, though. Over 500w pretty solid (whole system).

Most MMOs are CPU bottlenecked. It’s a similar situation with Guild Wars 2, which I’ve been playing for the past few days. GPU temps are only a few degrees above idle.

Give your computer a real workout! Try FS 2020!

Are you like, mad, or do you worship at the red altar? Curious.

Yep. Control has no problem clocking up the ol’ 3080. But it runs like butter.

The card is essentially silent but the amount of heat it’s releasing into my room is really noticeable.

No, I’m Team Green but realistic in that “twice as fast” was pure marketing BS as benchmarks later showed that it was “just” +20% over the RTX 2080 Ti

Just curious, it was a violent reply :)

I’m pretty sure Nvidia was gunning for twice as fast as the 2080 non-Ti, which it is in a few benchmarks (not many, have to cherry pick them.)

Ironically, I can’t find a 2080 Ti right now either.

Again, it really is literally twice as fast as the card I replaced, a 1080. That’s what I call a good upgrade.

Honestly there are a few titles I got damned near double FPS with from a 1080 Ti, even.

Very nice. The 3080’s performance sounds like what I want…

…but that’s the part which concerns me. There’s about 4-5 months out of the year in Houston where it’s hot all the time, even at night. Sitting next to a 500W heater during those times doesn’t sound like fun.

3070 and Navi incoming.

Igorslabs did a bit of undervolting the 3080 with some promising results. Although tbh the machine generated translations on that site make it hard to tell what they’ve discovered :/

Yeah, my right leg actually feels the heat emanating from this thing. You think oh, it’s only 170w more power, but it’s very noticeable.

That said, again, it’s super quiet, never gets over 78C even at max load for a full hour, and runs great otherwise.

Thought about undervolting a bit?

Nah, I would just close the window and turn on the A/C first. So far it isn’t too bad, just new and unwelcome.

I also picked up a GPU brace to hold the thing up, because it is fuh-huge and heavy.
