I don’t get the conspiracy. Unless MLiD dude is alleging that Nvidia could have had adequate market supply on release date, which I’m pretty certain would’ve been impossible, the rest seems moot. Yeah, the true price floor is closer to $750 once AIB stock becomes readily available, but… so what?

Yeah that video is just stupid. He’s starting to sound a little Trump-ish when he repeatedly claims how right he’s been about everything.

Wasn’t this the same guy that claimed the reason for the “real” price floor was that nVIDIA was selling the Founder’s Edition at a loss because their proprietary cooler was some amazing, hugely expensive solution that could not be touched. And then it turned out the AIB partner cooling solutions were at least as effective if not more so?

The Nvidia card is by far the prettiest though :)

(I can imagine nvidia engineers getting super stubborn about 3 fans being hugely inelegant and committing them to this new solution, which turned out to be … not amazing).

I can’t deny that, at least, lol

Yes indeed. And even the Zotac cooler is more effective than the FE one. But agreed, not as aesthetically pleasing.

These cards are basically all radiator, as is the PS5. But not, interestingly, the Xbox, which has a comparatively small cooler with a lot of space around it. WIth a chunk of PCB separated from the main chip too.

Excuse me, but as an FE owner, my card idles at 27-29c, does not go over 70c under load, makes no coil whine noises, and is not any louder than my GTX 1080.

Not very effective, my ass.

Who said it wasn’t effective? Nobody. We said it wasn’t as effective.

Right. Ah, Qt3.

I mean, nobody actually said that.

I might be wrong about the XBox having less radiator - they may just have taller fins over a smaller area.

Gamers Nexus on the Tuf 3080, the PS5 teardown from Sony, and DF’s time with the XBox.

Possibly no-one cares but me :)

The kind of people who review the cooling on these cards tend to be asking the question “yeah, but how ridiculously can I overclock it”. And some of that can bleed over sometimes.

If you have a clear side panel I wouldn’t say a card with a better cooling solution is necessarily superior than one which looks better, as long as the cooling solution is still good (and it is).

Also the FEs probably have the best chips in them, so you win there.

All things being equal, you want your card to run as cool as possible. Most AIB coolers are quieter too. They’re superior in every way but three-- cosmetics, they use more than 2 slots, and they don’t exhaust any heat directly outside the case.

I’d have gotten a 3080 FE if I could have found one; love the look! But on the literally bright side, my MSI card has programmable animated RGBs, so it’s doing the Cylon thing through my case window right now.

So fucking jelly right now. I moved twenty spots over the week. Still at number 206. The shop I ordered from has a waiting list.

Well, I did have to buy a whole PC to get it. :-) And in the process I learned (1) the Core i9-10900K is just a stupid thing, because it runs sooo hot compared to the i9-9900K in my productivity rig, so my fans are loud and I’m wishing AMD all kinds of success with Zen 3, and (2) CyberPowerPC can’t do cooling worth a damn, so I had to gut the included AIO cooler and fixed-speed fans and add a Noctua and PWM fans. So along with the cost, there were also two weeks of trail-and-error getting it to run at a reasonable temp/noise level. Everything’s running great now, but I’d definitely suggest the AMD route for flight sim performance fiends.

@schurem, I know how frustrating that is. Hopefully the rumors of much better supply over the next couple of weeks are true and you’ll move up the list to the top. You just need it before the Reverb G2, right? (That was my impetus for rushing into it.)

Yes sir I do, though I really wouldn’t mind a few weeks of buttery smooth all sliders to the right vr in my old n busted cv1.

My RX 480 normally runs at 80C at full load, and that is the “theoretical ideal” temp, but could run safely until 93C. 3080 running at 70C at full load is like voodoo magic to me.

Time for new rig in 2021.
