I gave in and decided to buy a PC from NZXT with a 3080 in it. So far, it has been fantastic. I have been playing Control, which looks nice even at my boring 1080/ultra wide resolution.
Now I need to get a 4K monitor…

Consider a 3440x1440 ultra-widescreen instead… IMHO offers more benefits for gaming (especially if play any sims) than a 4K monitor.

Personally, I’m waiting for a reasonably priced 4k, 120 Hz, VRR, IPS or OLED, HDR 1000, 30" display. It doesn’t exist yet.

How well do games work in ultra widescreen?
I mean, I’d be justifying it to myself as a wfh purchase and it would be great for that. But given the silly-powerful 30 series graphics card it seems a waste if its not good for games…
It’s pretty much perfect for games…
Though a 3080 might be overkill tbh. I’m usually around 60 FPS with a 2080S, although not in the most demanding titles.

The 3080 is really about me succumbing to the shiny (and cyberpunk). No rational cost benefit analysis occured in the purchase of this gpu.

3080 isn’t overkill if you ever play sims or VR.
And yeah, if you set the monitor up right, most modern games will take advantage of UWS ratios, and older games that don’t will just letterbox the sides, so you get a similar experience to what you’d get in 4K anyway. Pixel density is lower, but it’s still 1440p so still looks great and significantly sharper than 1080p.
Can confirm, I’m about 5 hours into this and it just looks incredible. My first RTX game and it’s going to be tough to beat - I have like 3 dozen screenshots in my Steam library already, I have to make myself stop hitting F12.

It is anything but reasonably priced, but a 3080 has paired quite amazingly w/ the 48" LG CX OLED.

Sadly, it has to double as a work monitor, so I’m limited to something in the 27-30 inch range or else it gets too unwieldy.

It’s my primary work monitor. Seemed overwhelming the first few hours, but turned out I adjusted easily. You do need some decent space either on your desk or on the wall facing your desk.

It’s supposed to be pretty much a 2080Ti or a whisker better I think. Better in raytracing in particular.
