Not sure why AMD somehow things 2.5 slots is better than 3 slots… Not like I have a half-slot-wide card to put next to it.

Could be important to those who have their cards held in a vertical position, I suppose.

edit - this looks really promising.

Still won’t bite until I see third-party numbers/reviews and get a better idea of what their software suite and “rage mode” will entail. Again references to the software suite were made, but no direct comparisons to DLSS (perhaps some weird mix of RIS and VSR which makes no sense to me, but then I’m just a lowly consumer). Sure would be nice to have some more info even though only a handful of games currently implement it; more will be coming.

Also the auto-overclock feature of “rage mode” isn’t something that bothers me so much as presents minor worries; not “Oh, noes - my PC will die!” but rather I’m used to more granular control and would appreciate a better understanding of what this does to know if it’s something to embrace or to simply use as an easier-but-lower-performing overclock option.

Finally, I totally expect ray tracing performance to be less than Nvidia’s 3000 series but not one single comparison.

Mind, I don’t fault AMD for this as it’s a PR event and there’s no reason for them to highlight where their competitor shines. However, it’s also why I won’t make buying decisions just quite yet.

edit 2 - of course, if I can only get my hands on one or the other, that may indeed make the decision for me, lol

According to GN all it does is increase the power limit.

More clearance below perhaps. In smaller cases big cards get jammed up against the PSU.

It’s occured to me how much Nvidia are betting on DLSS. If they had omitted the tensor cores from the 3000 series (maybe the 3090 would have to have been a separate “prothusiast” line) they could have crammed in more SMs, and probably beaten AMD in the like-for-like benchmarks. And literally the only thing the tensor cores do for you in gaming is DLSS 2.0.

Seems like an attempt to make a non-linear impact. Why run 4K at 50 FPS, maybe 3% faster than your competition, when you can use DLSS to get 90% of the IQ at twice the framerate.

I’m making up numbers but you get the idea.

Anyway, it’s 9AM. Where are the cards?

Newegg crashed immediately. Shit show!

All OOS at Newegg…

Looks like it’s a wait for AMD in 2-3 weeks. If they have stock they’ll get my money by default. Waiting months for a card is ridiculous, Nvidia deserves to lose this round regardless of what their tech is.

I didn’t realize it was 9ET not 10ET. I logged into best buy and was able to nab one by waiting on their “please wait” screen for a minute. I was 10 minutes late too.

Well theoretically. It said the order completed but it’s not showing it ot me in orders haha. I assume it’s just lagged from the load. (Edit: Just got my email horray for impulse buys)

The good news is that 6800XTs are available

Those look like shit.

That Biostar card supports AGP!

Ugh. Decided to settle for a 3070, waiting for the best buy button to turn yellow again. It did! The button didn’t work. Now you can’t even pull up the product listing. I am glaring in the direction of Best Buy headquarters.

AMD could making a killing with the 6000 series if they actually have stock at release that lasts more than 1 minute.

It looks like UK stock lasted about 30 minutes. All that’s left now is cards £100 more than MSRP. And more stock coming tommorrow.

Which is a lot better than the 3080!

Just watched that, and yeah, that’s laughable. Hopefully it’s not necessary for the Smart Access Memory because I’d much rather tweak my own settings.

I actually had a 3070 FE in my cart (scan webshop via Nvidia site) and it timed out… Foiled!

@Aceris, where did you hear about new supply tomorrow?

A lot of the AIB cards on scan say they are releasing tommorrow. I think some of the AIBs have tried to avoid the carnage a little bit?

Hmmm, cannot see any ETA for the preorder cards on the Scan site.

Guess I’ll be doing the refresh dance tomorrow.
