I have to confess I had a shot at a 3070 earlier and backed out (sticking to my guns and going either 3080 or 6800XT). I apologise to all those hunting for one, as I could have sold it along to a QT3 member.

I actually got a 3070 in my cart at Best Buy, but then I had to link my account and do some other junk and by time I got back there it was gone. Like a mirage.

If it’s anything like the 3080 expect that to happen about 25 more times before one actually sticks. I gave up after about 20.

Also I’m a bit annoyed that my strategy to use the Best Buy app (to avoid website/checkout issues people encountered with the 3080) backfired this time. When I checked at 9:05 they were still Coming Soon. Now they’re all sold out.

Maybe it was delayed like that on the website too? I was busy doing actual work so I wouldn’t have been able to get one anyway.

I didn’t load the best buy website until 9:10 ET and was able to nab one :(. No idea about the app. I wonder if the app doesn’t have the same queuing and hold system the website has.

Go to the EVGA site, find a card, and click “notify me.” Repeat for all cards you’re interested in. When you get through the queue, you’ll get an email and have 8 hours to order before your card us released.

If it doesn’t limit you to one purchase, I should still be in the queue for two 3080 models and the 3090s. :) If that happens, I’ll pass them on here.

I got a free year of GFN with my 3080. Makes no sense to give a streaming membership to someone you know has a high end gaming PC, but whatever. I gave it to my brother and set him up to share my steam library which is pretty cool.

So I bought & installed the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Steam halloween sale today. Talk about badly optimized ports! I expected it to be CPU-bottlenecked since I’m still running the 3080 FE with an i5 6600k (until the Zen 3 release). But I’m getting an average of 46fps at 4k with everything turned up. External benchmarks suggest that it should be more like 70fps. Not perfect, but more playable than what I’m seeing for sure.

I shouldn’t complain too much though. For one thing I have a 3080 in the first place. And for another it still looks better than on the PS4.
