Oh yeah, after the fans went berserk the first time I used the card I messed with the fan speeds to cut down the noise and lowered the throttling temperature, which hurts performance a bit. The card works - it even stays over the base boost threshold. But it’s hotter than it should be.
First, the numbers (40 idle/83 under load) you posted are… fine. They are as I understand it, within reasonable parameters. Use HWMonitor to track the temps of your CPU, Board, and other components and see if those are also on the warm side compared to established norms for those parts, it could be an air flow problem in your case that you just never noticed before.
Also, I recommend MSI Afternburner’s custom fan curve. Just the default curve is plenty. My own 3080 was idle at 58 out of the box, but when I enabled the MSI curve (no adjustments were needed, just check the box to turn it on) I was getting low 30’s idle and I almost never hear the fans kick in.

Update, with the side off the case I get 75 degrees under load, with the fans at 57%. This is much closer to review performance. The case (which is supposed to have good airflow) is making more difference that I expected.
The good news is the card is fine, so I can just turn down performance for now without worrying about it. At some point in future I can switch the case into a positive pressure setup and add a couple more fans, but there’s no hurry.
I feel dumb for not testing this earlier.

I wish mine did. Stuck at place 185 on a waiting list for a week now :/
In the park this morning… for a moment I thought RTX must be on :)
Happy Autumn everyone!

It’s easy to tell, just tilt your head down until you can’t see the bridge anymore, and if the reflection still shows up then it’s ray-traced. If it disappears the universe uses screen-space reflections and we’re all in a simulation and nothing matters arhhhhhhhhhh

Good, good, I’m firmly with team green for gaming. I do like the fact that team red keeps them honest, they done a great job at that this cycle. They deserve to make a ton off those rubes and the dumb miner bullshit won’t exacerbate the gpu availability problems, as if those aren’t bad enough already.
For those with a 3070, I was able able to get my 3070 FE undervolted nice and stable with this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/jn878f/small_beginners_undervolting_guide_for_rtx_3070_fe/
Meanwhile, anyone interested in buying a used EVGA 1080 :)
I’ve only been casually following the RTX 30x0 supply situation. Is it still impossible to find one?

Following the Stockdrops bot on Discord, though, I’m seeing more frequent drops than before, at least.
Would suggest going over to EVGA.com and getting in the queue by clicking “notify” on the cards your’re interested in. I got one each notification, with about 11 hours to decide to buy, on a 3080 and 3090, that way.

Congrats to Nvidia though. They truly managed to hit my fuck that limit. I’m paying the same amount for a 3090 that I just paid for a 55" OLED tv.
Update to the 6800 rumor:
Update
There is conflicting information in regard to RX 6800 mining performance. We have been told that the preliminary drivers do not currently support mining, while others report that the performance claims are untrue. User from Tieba Baidu, who is believed to already have RX 6800 XT, says not to believe the rumor from Lean (the original author of the mining performance claim):

We hope to provide an update as soon as the press driver is available.

If it wasn’t for DLSS and NVidia’s head-start on RT, I’d be looking at building the most cost-effective all AMD system possible. Their results look amazing, and being able to go Rage mode with the video card and processer together? That would be sublime. Though maybe AMD will surprise us with some of their video options (though we’d need developers to be on board which I’m worried won’t happen in force)?

Well, congrats on having the world’s fastest consumer video card!
I was at the same place at one point. Relieved I was able to find the 3080, but I keep thinking “Those extra 8 fps would be sweet in MSFS.” ;-)
Given that you’re a sim flier, you will find benefit in your epic purchase, because I’m confident that VR is going to be able to take advantage of that extra memory. It wouldn’t surprise me if the 16GB AMD new generation cards end up being the sweet spot for VR pilots.

Damn phone typing. That should’ve said I’m not paying that.
