Oh. I was trying to make you feel better for your insane purchase, @vyshka. In reality, my reaction was “Well, his card’s faster than mine, but I got 3080s in both our family’s PC for less than that, so I won’t be too jealous of the extra 8 fps in flight sim.”

I do think the 3090 and AMD cards might end up the winners in DCS VR with the Reverb G2, due to the amount of memory. But the only reason for charging that much given the difference between the 3080 and 3090 is because they can.

That $800 range that I paid for the 2080 is probably my limit unless something truly amazing was being offered techwise.

I’m kinda waiting to see if 6800XT plus a Zen 3 6900X is fast enough for full fat raytraced 1440p gaming, or even high framerate 1080p gaming. Otherwise I can wait until Rocket Lake next year, forcing AMD to drop price on 6900X, THEN I will pounce, pairing it with a 3080.

My hope was to pick up a zen 3 next year, but looks like we are replacing the ac so not sure that will be in the budget.

Given the supply issue, and Rocket Lake launching next year, Zen 3 probably will be a realistic and cheap(ish) option next year.

I did that weeks ago and still have not heard anything from EVGA.

Holy shit, I was actually able to find a 5900X and RTX 3080 available via NZXT just now.

I’ve been occasionally checking in the mornings to see of the CPU/GPU were available and at best it’s been one or the other, occasionally. Was shocked to see both available. Now let’s hope I didn’t screw up my configuration or overlook anything in my rush to get the order placed. :)

Wow, nice! Good catch.

I managed to get an EVGA RTX 3080 in my cart on best buy, but then it said it could not ship it to me, and was not available for pick up in any store near me. WTF?!

$2163 for a 5900X, 3080, B550,32GB of 3600Mhz and a 750W PSU at NZXT. A pretty great PC.

You “accidentally” picked the world’s blingiest RAM like I did, right?

Awesome news! Hope you will be as happy with yours as I am with mine. No worries, their software makes it easy to turn off the shine…if you so choose.

I saw that thing and it sparked a whole conversation with a friend. I’m 42 but this whole computer component bling thing really made me feel like an old man wondering what the hell the whippersnappers were all going on about. Why do I want bling on my RAM? Why is it all shiny and encrusted with LEDs all over the place? I mean, we don’t make automobile engine components all blinged out and shiny. Or maybe we do, haha.

In any case, it doesn’t bother me but it’s definitely left me scratching my head. It’s just going to sit under my desk and if it were on top of my desk instead, I’d find the lights to be an annoying distraction!

Kids these days. Lawn! Off!

That’s why you sync them to your health in-game!

Not good…

Had two pings on the Discord bot today. One was for a card that has had a lot of bad reviews and was £100 over MSRP, so I didn’t even try. The other was for the card I actually planned to buy, direct from Asus, but it was super laggy and was gone before I could check out.

What are the card brands to to avoid?
The other day I could have had a PNY 3800, but I decided to, at great risk, to try and google how good or bad PNY was. Of course by the time I was done, it was out of stock again.

From what I gathered, PNY is kind of a ‘meh’ brand. Not terrible, but not good either.

They’re all pretty much fine, but Zotac is the worst of the bunch.

I’ll say that the 3080 is not exactly killing it at 4K with the first two ‘Next-gen’ games WD: Legion and AC: Valhalla. Can’t hit 60 consistently w/ all the bells and whistles enabled. 1440 (preferably 1440 Ultrawide) still seems to be the sweet spot.

I’m just sitting here patiently waiting for a next gen card around $300.

Pny used to be great and had a fantastic warranty. Seems like they have dropped off in recent years, perhaps

PNY is okay if you don’t pay like an EVGA price. They use to lag a bit behind in warranty years, but they never really had the bad rep that Zotac has. They also build a lot of other parts so they’ve been expanding in hardware space for a bit now.
