In the last week, the secondary scalper market for 3080 cards is starting to drop, at least on Ebay. Saw a couple of 3080s go in the last two days for under $1,000, and am seeing BiN prices under $1100 now.
It’s still too much of a markup for my blood, but it’s getting into the zone.
My EVGA 3080 reservation came in, and I don’t need it. It’s for the XC3.
It’ll take some doing, but I can work with someone to take my reservation (I think). @jpinard, how about you?
Cool. Let’s take it to PMs :-)

FWIW, I couldn’t pass along my EVGA reservation, but since it was w/ a trustworthy Qt3’er, I just paid and had them PayPal me as reimbursement
@jpinard you better have bought a new chair first!

This is going to sound stupid, but I’m kind of terrified to buy one without being able to test it first since it’s such a big purchase. So I’ve got a bunch of pillows I’ve wrapped up in my battered chair to try and hold me over til I feel it’s safe to venture out to places to test.
There are so many people not wearing masks around, I feel totally unsafe. It’s as if people want to get sick and die.
He can take one of @ArmandoPenblade’s since I heard his father is buying him at least two chairs for Christmas!
@ArmandoPenblade’s dad is the best!

I’m now down to place nr 158 on my “dutch shop that takes your money long before they deliver the product” list. Started out in place nr 190. Perhaps someday…

How many days has it been? Maybe a bunch of people will jump out of line when the AMD video cards drop.

I’m hoping that, it’s since I ordered it, in september. What a shit-show. I saw the number go down a bunch one time, indicating them doing a delivery of about 20 units.
Still, despite the fact that those fuckers have been stroking their dicks with my money for months now with fuck-all to show for it, it’s a good price (719) for a potentially awesome bit of hardware that I have seen bought and sold for over a 1000. So fuck it. I’m watching that list. trickle trickle.

We got it to work (took some fiddling; we used my account). ETA Friday for @jpinard!

Yea that threw me for a loop! My first thought was you got hacked. Maybe by friends of @lordkosc LOLOL
It’s my first night with the Discord bot and I’m already a strung-out wreck, conditioned to feel instant disappointment at the sound of a notification.
The ebay market has continued to fall most of the day today, though it looks now like most sellers are trying to hold a line at $1,100 on BiN. But those allowing full bidding with a lower reserve are seeing $1,000 and even sometimes less than a thousand.
So either demand is drying up…or supply is too heavy in the scalper community, or a little bit of both. In either event, if it continues, getting a card through Newegg/Best Buy/Amazon/MicroCenter/B&H should get a bit easier in the coming weeks.
EDIT: this is 3080 RTX cards.
I looked at those $900+ sales at Amazon for a 3070 today, and although I quickly perished the thought, I at least entertained the idea for a few seconds.

I never even got that stupid thing to ding me. I wonder what I was doing wrong? I thought I had it setup right.
Wanted to tell you, that like 80+ people got cards 2 hours ago from the discord alert. The mb went crazy. Newegg got a huge drop today.

The 3070 is more than adequate for PC VR on a Quest 2, and VR in general unless you’re using an HP Reverb G2. Even a 2070 is fine for the vast majority of games. Yes you can crank the supersampling a bit with a real monster of a card but the difference is fairly marginal past a 3070.
NVIDIA video encoders are a lot better for Quest 2 VR, so unless AMD changed things a lot in the new gen you almost certainly want to stick with NVIDIA for any PC VR that requires video compression like Quest 2. Though nobody has really tested the new AMD cards yet…

You probably know this, but just in case you somehow didn’t, you can use the Quest 2 without a PC at all, so your daughter can still do a lot of things in VR. You only need a high end PC for PC VR games.
