Good point, and I was aware of it but of course the first game she wanted to play was a PC VR game.

Curious. Which game?

I saw several today for actual reasonable prices, but they were gone in minutes.

I’m content to wait for my EVGA list.

If we’re talking about the BotRtx Discord, they just posted something in the alert-signup channel about enabling “link previews” in your Discord settings. You also need to right-click the announce channel and turn on notifications if you want the sound.

It was all Asus drops tonight. I tried about 5 times and got as far as clicking the next button to enter my credit card info. Once I got there, I was suddenly trying to pay for nothing. Maybe people are using some sort of script to get through the order process faster than me. I also tried F5’ing the site to see if I could beat the rush from the bot, but it’s pretty fast.

Anyway, now that I’ve experienced the thrill of the hunt, I’m content to sit back and try my luck when I happen to be at my PC. I’ll get one eventually.

I couldn’t get anything on their discord to work. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

T-Minus 15 minutes for Big Navi

Did anyone get one?

Here’s a review from Digital Foundry:

Looks as expected right? Strong rasterization, weaker RT if you care about that. Smart Access gives 10% if you’re lucky, but 1 or 2% more likely. They seem to slot in between the 3070 and 3080. Pretty good showing overall. The XT seems especially good at 1440, often a little ahead of the 3080. Good power numbers too.

But I bet no-one can buy them :)

Not even remotely close, lol

As I’ve been saying since the announcement, AMD’s lack of anything to compete with DLSS is deadly for them. Not that it’ll matter if they can actually produce and ship product to consumers, unlike Nvidia.

My feeling is its poor ray-tracing performance probably won’t matter much, you just run RT quality medium rather than high and can’t tell much of a difference.

But looking at the ray tracing numbers, even with DLSS off, the Nvidia cards perform better than their AMD counterparts.

But still, it’s close. But with DLSS on, it’s not close anymore.

Yeah, but their rasterization performance is roughly comparable. In some AMD wins, in some Nvidia does. Ray-tracing Nvidia pulls far ahead (but I don’t think it’ll matter). What matters is DLSS, because that gives anywhere from a 20-40% performance bump with zero drop in quality (in DLSS quality mode).

It’s AMD RT 1.0 vs Nvidia RT 2.0. Of course Nvidia has an edge.

But AMD has an edge in that its RT is going to be the standard for most cross-platform games. So devs aren’t going to go crazy on RT if they know the PS5/XSX can’t handle it.

Not really. Nvidia didn’t do much with RT in Ampere, contrary to their marketing materials. It’s still a huge performance impact turning it on.

I agree that the RT performance disparity won’t matter much.

I wouldn’t put much stock in Control and Watch Dogs Legion benchmarks. They are legitimate, don’t get me wrong, but they’re premiere Nvidia titles, they were bundled with RTX GPUs, and they’re highly optimized for Nvidia GPUs. So their results can’t necessarily be extrapolated to other games where Nvidia didn’t work with the developers to maximize performance.

In a world where you could buy any of these cards from Amazon for MSRP and receive them in 2 days with free prime shipping and assuming you don’t have a hardware gsync monitor, I would go with the 6800 at the $500-ish price level and the 3080 at the $700-ish. The 6800 is simply a more competitive product.

In this world, though, buy whichever one is actually available.

I watched a review which showed the Control issues; it’s a driver problem, it seems (clock speed drops for no good reason). It’s an outlier for a reason, but it seems to point at the gap being fixable in the near future. Does seem like the 3080 is slightly ahead of the 6800XT overall imho, but just by a smidge. But yeah, the 6800 certainly seems to be the best “value” card of the new generation (seems silly to say for an expensive graphics card, but such is the reality in which we live).

Say whaaaaaat? :D

Very much not pikachu face here.

LOL - yeah, AMD sure has earned that.

Either he has trump sized hands are those are some big honkin’ cards!
