Wish he was the real Tech Jesus, so he could multiply the cards to give to everyone like the loaves and fishes.

Wow, yeah, they werenāt kidding about raytracing. From that review:

Since Iām never gonna turn RT off, and will take advantage of DLSS when itās available, these AMD cards are a non-starter. Looking forward to their next iteration.

This is me too. If Iām spending my time playing a game, I really want to enjoy it in all itās visual (and audio) glory. I guess Iām a graphics whore.
Same, as long as I can hit 60fps Iām content with the settings. Valhalla I hit about 70-80 fps on the very highest settings, and while I could probably get to 90 pretty reliably by lowering somethings here and there, I just wonāt do it. 74 average is 100% fine with me and it looks amazing.
I got my FE via this method. It took two weeks of suffering, though.
The RT performance is a bit of a bucket of cold water, I assume both consoles will have similar RT performance (or even lower), and if things are similar to this generation, games will still mostly be driven by console hardware.

Yes, the RT performance disparity really wonāt matter for that reason.
Lacking DLSS may matter, if it gets popular and AMDās answer to it doesnāt really satisfy.
Did you change your buying technique or was it just luck?
100% luck.
I didnāt use the phone app or anything, just hit up Best Buy on their first FE drop and went through the whole āI would like to purchase thisā process and it worked fine.
I think Iām set on a 3070 now, after seeing the AMD reviews. Hopefully the new AMD cards ease some of the demand on the RTX⦠Wishful thinking, I know.
I finally signed up for that Discord bot, nerves will be shot by Thanksgivingā¦
Which one? If it is the one from upthread, can someone throw me a different invite link? I left and canāt rejoin
The Ebay marketplace bounced back a little for scalpers today for 3080s. You can still find existing Buy It Now auctions at under $1100, and even a few reserve-met bidded auctions are coming in right at over a thousandā¦but a lot of new Buy It Now auctions that went up today went back to $1200 or so as an average.
I think we saw a little bit of a scared market earlier in the week over the launch date of the new Radeon cardsā¦but once it was clear that these were as scarce, if not scarcer, than nVidia Ampere offerings, the scalpers got a bit emboldened.

I feel so stuck in this generation, and not because nothing is actually available.
I am forced to buy Nvidia because I use cards for deep learning in Tensorflow (please let me know if AMD are on equal footing this gen somehow but I doubt it).
I have a 11gb 1080 Ti and I donāt want to āsidegradeā into something that has less RAM. So with the cancellation of the 16gb 3070 / 20gb 3080, and 0 desire to buy a 3090, I guess I am going to have to wait for the Ti versions?
Well, AMD did just release this thing, but I have no idea if it suits your needs (or your budget). Of course, itās not a gaming card.

Hey thatās interesting, thanks for linking! I should have mentioned that on my home PC I need it for games and computing. When people write about the 3080 āonly a very tiny proportion of gamers could ever use over 10GB of VRAMā, I guess I am one of those sigh.

Yeah the 3090 is basically built for your use case, unfortunately that means you are (or in this case, are not) paying a āprofessionalā tax over what it would cost as a pure gaming card.

Welp, finally got my 3080. Itās the Gigabyte Vision OC model, because thatās all they had.
Luckily my case has a dark tempered glass side, so all the whiteness wonāt poke my eyes out.
Picture with cat will be uploaded later, when I get home.
Edit: Cat is fine, but not ecstatic.
The gigabyte cards seem decent, I like that they have 2 hdmi.

The only good thing to come out of COVID was Iām able to get a new video card and PS5. There is a new FHA program (for those that had to buy under one), that if you took the covid hardship deferrals on your mortgage, youād be able to refinance your house at a lower interest rate for free. So I had to skip making 2 mortgage payments, and today is my signing which will change my interest rate from 4% to 3%. Iāll still end up paying off my mortgage at the same time as before and Iāll be paying $75 less per month.
If you hadnāt considered this kind of thing, look into for your own mortgage.
edit
This goes for more than just FHA. VA, USDA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac as well.
