So far it provides around 20 more frames in Valhalla than the 1080TI. Awesome. Though the clouds look fucked up, maybe I need to reinstall the drivers.
That’s a 9700K under that Dark Rock 4. Next CPU cooler is going to be an AIO liquid cooler, it was terrifying removing the old GPU with the screwdriver pressing on that PCIE release tab, I feared damaging the motherboard. I need more room around all the components.

Nice. You’d think those big air coolers would have evolved some standard way of bracing against the ‘near’ side of the case by now. I suppose yours is pretty much supported by the GPU and that vertical brace :)

Hah, no, there’s a millimeter or two in between them. No touching!
That brace is a good idea though, got it a couple of months ago in preparation.
I think I got one in the Best Buy drop today. Unfortunately it’s a white one that costs $80 more, what the fuck? And $40 in sales tax, I feel like I’m in the dark ages.
Also in the panic to hit the checkout button, I chose curbside delivery sometime next week. Hopefully the geek squad doesn’t steal it.
Anyway, if I get it into my hands, I’ll keep it around for a couple weeks to see if I can get a cheaper one.

That is not even its final form!
Motherboards are surprisingly solid. The big coolers are anchored to the motherboard by a backplate - if fitted correctly there’s no give at all and the stress is well distributed. No need to brace against anything.
The geometry of current dGPU cooling solutions is pretty awful, but they are stuck with the long thin form factor because that’s the space they know will be available in the cases.
I expect that as GPU power comsumption cotinues to mount we will increasingly see AIBs build cards with AIOs. It’s so dumb that most gaming PCs are sold with AIOs for the CPU when a mid-range air cooler would be cheaper, quieter, and do just fine (except for aesthetics), but with GPUs that put out twice the heat saddled with inefficient flat coolers with tiny noisy fans.
Best Buy is by far the most civilized shopping experience for these cards. Once they did the first drop, I went into their queue system but I also did a search for more cards in a separate window. I got into the queue for another card that the bot hadn’t announced yet. I was able to grab that one. They say the card is reserved once you checkout, which is such a relief. Just be ready for them to send you an email verification code.

Beautiful!!! The case and card too :p
It’s white so it doesn’t absorb the extra heat from the sun. Thus running cooler when FAN STOP kicks in.
@Lamalo can confirm this.

And also has a silver backplate, which makes it run even faster, because… You know… QuickSilver. Right?
Sorry, whatever you call their temporary wait you need to do after you hit add to cart. You still need to be there live to grab it.

Yes the Vision is overclocked, you can check specs on Gigabyte’s site. It’s basically a “Gaming OC” model (the same one I have) in white.

Yeah, my old 1080TI would like to argue with that. A single 120 AIO bundled with a crappy fan was noisy as hell when running hot. Maybe the new offerings in this generation with a 240+ AIO are better, but the price bump is quite harsh.
Oh I see it now in the model number. This is the 3070:
Well I’m happy with that I guess. Only $120 off from a 3080 but that’s a line I’m not prepared to cross.
This all assumes I actually get the stupid thing. I’ll believe it when I see it.

It’s extremely difficult to find a $699 3080 so not really $120 off.
I’d love to get into that 😭
I guess the good news is that my first choice of card (TUF 3070) is actually being sold in places 🤪

I am supremely unsurprised that a GPU AIB vendor went for the cheap and nasty solution. A 120 AIO for a 250W TDP part shakeshead.
I was just saying it’s weird that a default prebuild high end gaming pc will come with an AIO for the 105W CPU (which might peak higher, but sustained will stick close to the TDP) and air cooling with bad geometry for the 320W GPU (which will run at full power in games).
That’s along the lines of what I think happened to my HOTAS a couple of weeks back. It arrived for pickup on Saturday… when I went to get it a few days later, it showed it had been “picked up” on Sunday. Manager said it just showed as “released”, no further info. I was livid very disappointed.
I ended up spending almost twice as much getting one from a reseller on Amazon.
