I guess a UPS guy could steal it too, so I’ll take my chances one way or the other.
I can’t say for sure but I think if I had selected to ship it to me that it wouldn’t have worked. On my first try it defaulted to shipping and said none were available. On the second card it defaulted to curbside, I hit the checkout button as fast as possible, and got it. Might be worth considering if anyone else here is tracking Best Buy.
Every morning for the last two weeks, I head out to Starbuck’s to grab a coffee, and swing by the nearby MicroCenter as well…just in case. Weirdly, the 2nd day I was doing that, the sales guy told me I missed a 3080 they got in stock by 10 minutes. Dang!
This morning?
Yahtzee.
Paydirt.
And the MC hardware manager dude that I’ve gotten to know said that they think the supply pipeline may start to ease up even before Christmas. Still will be tough, but maybe not as tough, to get one.

Congrats Trigger! Another one down.

Seems like a good strategy. Newegg is the worst option from what I’ve seen. Everything is gone instantly.
Thanks. It’s not a go-to brand for me (it’s an MSI) but I did have an MSI 1080 for a year or so, and it worked great, so fingers crossed.
Never really had an issue with MSI cards, so that seems solid. Nice catch.

That’s the one I have. It’s been good. I don’t think it does the Cylon thing the kids like these days… but it’s fine.
LOL. Yeah, no crazy LED at all. And that’s fine.

Hopefully this is close enough to being on topic…
I need (well greatly want) a new video card after needing to drop my settings in AC: Valhalla. It still looks pretty good, but it could look better! I have a 970 GTX and play at 1080 resolution. Ideally I’d love to get an entire new computer + monitor and move up to playing at 1440, but that ain’t gonna happen unless my wife lands the Dean position she’s looking for.
Anywho, what video card could I upgrade to that would provide enough of a performance boost over my 970 GTX to be worth it, without breaking the bank? I don’t think there is anything new in the $300 dollar range, right? Any old models for that price that would be enough of an upgrade to be worth it?
If anyone here has a used video card to sell after they land a new shiny awesome one I’d be open to that is it can improve my performance enough.
Thanks!

5600XT / used 1070 Ti (50-80%ish probably?) in the ~$300 point
1660S / 1660Ti / used 1070 (30-50%ish probably?) in the ~$230 point
IIRC Newegg’s Black Friday advertises a 5600XT for 230 after all discounts & rebates, I’d target that.

I could probably swing a used 1070, set a couple watches on ebay. One is currently at $166, but I’m sure that will jump in price at the end. 16 hours to go on it. If any regular here has one to sell I much rather buy from one of you guys.
Took 10 days of low-to-medium level haunting of this Discord server, but I finally snagged an Asus TUF 3080 OC (the card I actually wanted) on Thursday evening. I offer some observations in case it is of use to anyone else:
-
Drops appear to happen most consistently before 10 am and after 4pm CST. The days and merchants vary, which makes this less useful, not to mention that “most consistently” doesn’t mean “very consistently”.
-
Make sure to sign up for Newegg combo notifications. Yeah, it sucks to play that game, but it seems to be one of the most successful ways to get a card. It’s how I got mine. I’ll have to pay shipping when I return the motherboard that I don’t need, but if you pay with PayPal, you can get that reimbursed. So you actually end up paying MSRP, not counting Newegg’s $10-20 markups on certain models (e.g. EVGA FTW).
-
Pay with PayPal or Apple Pay to get through check-out as quickly as possible on Newegg. Both have been reported to flake out from time to time, but if they work, they can make the difference between success and failure.
-
Make sure you’re good with the model you get if you’re buying on Newegg. I don’t know if it’s a change or not, but Newegg will only let you return the cards for replacements (if a combo, the other item can be returned for a refund).
-
Don’t rely on the notifications; use them as warnings. The Discord bot only checks every so often, so it’s a generally a bit behind the curve, which in this game can be disasterous. Once drops start happening at a vendor, even if it’s for 3070s or 3090s or whatever it is that you don’t actually want, get to the vendor’s site, log in, make sure your payment method is ready to go, and start refreshing on the items you want. This is a pain and often nets you nothing, but it does result in being ahead of the Discord notifications at times.
-
Drops seem to be happening more frequently. Anecdotal observation, but it seems like in the last few days, things have started to move a bit more quickly. Maybe the drought is at the beginning of the end?
Good luck!
Congrats. I’ve been hunting for a 3070 TUF. At least they seem to finally be showing up for sale, albeit briefly

Wow, I like these results. Artificial bench, but still:

Hmm, I’m wondering if I should try and wait to save up for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 for $500 instead of spending $200+ on a GTX 1070. Looks like it is around 2x as fast? Maybe that doesn’t matter anyway unless I upgrade from my 1080 monitor and my i7-6700K CPU?

Depends what you have now, if a 1070 is an upgrade your current gaming performance is probably pretty grim. I would suggest waiting on a RTX3060 or RX6600 to be announced and released, unless you need to buy right away.

I have a GTX 970 and it’s been OK for the most part. I had to dial down AC: Valhalla a bit more than I would have liked. It’s not so much a need as a want. If the RTX3060 come sin the $300-$350 range it is probably worth me waiting.
