I’ve actually got a 1070 that I just replaced with a 3080. I’d definitely much rather it go to a good home with you than deal with the hassle and fees of eBay. Haven’t looked into the current prices, so whatever you think is fair should be fine if you still want it.

Wow, I did not expect this! Another synthetic benchmark, but still… this is Total War Warhammer 2. Doubled frame rate!
The game I play the most right now however is Anno 1800, and I was hoping for a huge boost, but sadly I only get a 10% increase in fps. So Anno is apparently extremely cpu limited.

Thanks for the offer! I’ll PM you
If I do end up acquiring this 3070, I’m going to need to figure out some games to play to take advantage of it. I’m at 1440p and the 1070ti already does 100+ fps in DMC5 and Doom Eternal, which is next on my list. My list is very short. I don’t really want to play anything until Cyberpunk.
Maybe Warhammer 2, but do I really need to get addicted to a strategy game right now?
No Game Pass at the moment either. I might re-subscribe to try some things out, but not till next year.

I upgraded from a 1080 myself at 1440p myself, and all the framerates basically doubled. But sure, older games and those extremely skillfully coded like DOOM played more than fast enough before. I suggest playing Control if you haven’t already tried it. It only has raytraced reflections but there are a lot of them and they’re super noticeable in that game.
I’ll see what’s on deep discount at the Steam sale and go from there. The timing lines up nicely.
I’ve been gaming at 1080p and been happy with that, but I am curious whether 1440p would actually deliver a discernibly better experience. I can’t really tell, though, because I’d have to buy a 1440p capable monitor, and those do not seem to be cheap. Especially as it would seem to make sense to get an HDR capable one too, and those definitely do not seem cheap. Currently, at 1080p/144Hz, with a 2070 S and a 24" monitor, I’m quite pleased with the results, but I know from experience that a bigger, higher-res display always ends up making me wonder how I ever gamed on anything less!

Yes, it is absolutely a superior gaming experience. The screen real estate difference is simply wonderful. In so many of my games it’s like opening your eyes all the way. But I’d go with a big one, like 30" + because stuff gets smaller and I have bad eyes. I’m not sure how much of a difference HDR would actually make, but I have the Asus XG32V and love it. It was worth every penny.

I do think 1440p is a noticeable improvement at 27" yes. 4k much less so. And HDR is awesome but PC games don’t support it well.
I used to game at 4K on a 42" TV on my desk and it was gorgeous. Of course the framerates, not so much.
I now game at 1440p at higher quality and higher frames on a 32". I do miss my old setup, though.
Not at 24" it wouldn’t…
My order of preference for games would be:
- get a bigger screen
- hdr
- higher resolution

Yea, 1440P on a 24" screen would be crazy unless you have Eagley eyeballs.
I haven’t been thrilled with HDR, but it’s possible I just haven’t found the right game for it. No Man’s Sky looks actively terrible with HDR on, and I couldn’t really tell a noticeable difference in Shadow Warrior 2.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps has been my favorite HDR showcase so far.
I would not do 1440p at 24" for the simple reason that my monitor doesn’t support it, and I sure would not buy a 1440p monitor at that size (if any actually exist). I would also not buy a 27" 1080p monitor, either, as I don’t really see the need with no increase in resolution and having a perfectly good 24" monitor. What I was thinking about is getting a 1440p 27" monitor at a good price (and if HDR is not well supported yet perhaps that isn’t a must-have feature). I’m just wondering whether my 2070 Super would be good enough so that I wouldn’t be trading away too much performance to get the higher rez.

Congrats. I still say a chair would have helped with framerate more

I was semi-OK with a generic 1080 at 1440p, so outside of using ray-tracing you’d be perfectly fine. I still would get a bigger than 27" if you can. The immersional difference is glorious.
The main one I was able to find (and bought, because my desk size made 27" difficult without disrupting my preferred monitor setup) this summer was a Dell TN panel unit. It’s been many years since I had a TN panel as my primary, and that particular model (Dell 2417DG) has a particularly abysmal track record with color-banding in dark scenes, but unfortunately for me, I didn’t really play/watch stuff that demonstrated just how bad it was during the first few weeks of owning it, so it was too late for a return by the time I realized how badly it ruined, for instance, animated shows on streaming networks. (e.g., the title splash screen for The Dragon Prince, which should just be the fancied-up title on a black backdrop, becomes a hazy, blocky mess of false blacks whirling through each other seemingly at random).
Anyway, let my foolishness be your salvation; I blew a not-inconsiderable chunk of my stimulus check getting that sucker for $300 in order to improve productivity in both work and online GMing, and it is one of my most-regretted PC purchases ever.
I would put G-sync/Freesync at the top of the list, personally. Unless your setup is powerful enough to do locked 60 at Ultra settings with Vsync on.

I agree, my GTX1080 was basically OK at 1440p. In some modern games I’d need to drop quality to high and rarely to medium to cap at 60fps, but everything played fine.
