That’s why I put my new computer together but still using a 1070 😜

Welp, I just bought this bad boy:
https://www.pny.com/geforce-rtx-3090-xlr8-gaming-epic-x-rgb-triple-fan-p
PNY 3090. In my defense, I am 50%+ using it for work (woohoo tax deduction) and the 10GB of the 3080 was just too restrictive. My major hurdle to buying this was the insane power draw, but the results that have been achieved by undervolting look amazing. 1-2% drop in performance for significant reductions in power draw and heat.
Now to hope it will fit in my mATX case and mobo!
Holy crap, that’s Mr. RTX to you! Bad boy indeed.

Yeah card looks super fast, love the RGB waves of extra FPS that are coming off the fans. :)

Yeah, I’m deducting all my computing purchases this year, alongside my home office as a portion of my mortgage and maintenance. I mean, I’m at home all year, and I use it for work.

I’ve never deducted computer purchases before but this year I think it may qualify as it’s my primary workstation. Anyone have a link that explains how to do so?

Technically, I believe your employer has to require you to have them or something, but I can get a letter saying that if the IRS audits me.
I’ve always found that the amount of deductions you need to exceed the standard deduction these days is so high that it’s not worth it, but YMMV of course.

That depends on your situation, is not the case for me.

Hookers and blow are not deductible, my man.
My computer’s more than three years old and it’s easy enough to find pre-built machines with RTX 3080s in them, so I’m starting to be tempted to just buy a new computer. But new gaming computers are hideous! My current computer is in a Fractal Design Define C, and all of the available systems either have big LED windows or look like something out of Portal.

Thanks for making me feel better! I’ve got a 1070 Ti and can move it over to whatever I build… I just didn’t want to.
Well, I preordered a 3070 this morning. Be over a month before I get it, but getting the one I wanted (3070 Tuf)
Oh, of course, I was just tossing that in as an aside. I don’t have any business expenses at all, so it never makes sense for me.

I pre-ordered an EVGA 3080 FTW Ultra on Amazon yesterday, because my phone notified me and it remarkably went all the way through checkout and I received the confirmation email.
But I don’t need it, so I cancelled the order. Still got it though.

So many of your fellow Qt3 members reading this topic are weeping right now, that you didn’t just get it and re-ship it to them. :)
I get how it happened, though. I tried to add a PS5 Digital to my cart today at Wal-mart. I made the decision, since I have a Series X, not to consider a PS5 until I’ve (1) worked through my PS4 backlog (I haven’t even played the first Last of Us yet) and (2) there’s a compelling exclusive game.
But when I saw the PS5 was coming available in 2 minutes on the site, I had to play the “can I win a chance to buy a console?” game.
(Got to “add to cart” and then ‘out of stock’ – the 12:20 restock lasted about four seconds.)
