How did you know it was available? I really don’t mind a GPU that has a long delivery window but most retailers show ‘OOS’ and won’t take an order.

Buying it for a fellow Qt3er was not out of my head. I have done that twice in the past now w the EVGA queue. I just didn’t really want the hit on my debit card at the moment. But, yeah, I probably should have let it ride.
As for how I knew, I’m still on some Discord alert tracker channel. I’m looking for a Ryzen 5900x but somehow can’t resist the 3080 ‘can I get one’ compulsion when those alerts pop in. :)

Man I love building/upgrading PCs…
Before putting in the new video card, check out this little micro ATX mobo:
I know it isn’t the most attractive case or set up, there is barely any RGB lights and it’s cables are flopping all over the place!
The 3090:
I love micro ATX. Before buying the card I was worried about card sag and the various ways it can be prevented. Then when installing I remembered the mobo and case are a bit weird in that the gpu faces up towards the psu. Hopefully sag in the other direction isn’t possible.
That card needs its own zip code.

Keep in mind the mobo is compact size! This particular model is 28cm long and 2.7 slots wide. Significantly bigger than my last 1080 ti, but it is the smallest 3090 i could find (beyond the blower models).

Really nice Tim , I should build a small box, my current case is still a full tower, weighs like 60 pounds.
That AMD cooler should provide enough RGB for that case.
Is that the PSU intake fan facing the GPU intake fan? Aren’t they fighting for the same air…?
Like Gulliver in Lilliput!
So my work buddy has just conceded defeat in his search for a new 3080. Which sucks for me since he was giving me his old card. So I now have to embark on a quest to get one of these cards. I’ve looked through the thread here but can’t find the posts that describe the iOS app and other things you use to check stock. Can someone link that post or repost some of the info? Thx.
You’ll probably snag one in a week or two and your coworker will be jealous!
Do we know anything about the rumored 3070ti’s power or slot requirements? I just picked up a new rig with an evga 3070 (and a 750w power supply). I hope that, once the 3070ti is available, upgrading will be simple.
That would seem like an odd decision to make that upgrade, since it shouldn’t be a major one. Of course if you had a use for the first one elsewhere, why not?
At any rate, unless you’ve got a ton of extra stuff going on, you could run a 3080 off 750W (yes I know they recommend 850), so I’d expect you’d be fine.
Slots are going to vary with brand, but I don’t imagine the 3070ti would be wiser than a corresponding 3070.

Hmm, that’s not a bad point. It’s a pretty old case and I have always had the fan facing inside the case. The manual makes this recommendation as the PSU fan then acts as another exhaust fan for the warm case air. I never though about how this impacts on the effectiveness of the GPU being able to suck in air. Sometime I will reverse it and compare thermal performance.

Flip it while you’ve got the case open!
HotStock for the win. Just got an alert for this 3070 and was able to get a confirmed order in:
Now someone needs to tell me if it’s any good!
Free shipping, est delivery is Dec 22.

Yeah Hotstock is pretty good. Congrats!
Depends on what you wanted. It’s the most basic card Asus makes (well, not quite, since it has an overlock). If you wanted something on the smaller size without a third fan and lots of bling, should be great.

They’re all basically the same, don’t sweat it. I wouldn’t take the highest-end 3060ti in the world, 3 slots and solid copper, over the cheapest 3070 with a plastic backplate.
I’m toying with paying the scarcity premium for a 3070 to make Cyberpunk shinier. I’m not sure if that’s a sidegrade from a 2080S though. I don’t want to go for a higher power card.
